Alan Tyler, Acting Controller of Entertainment Commissioning, says: “This group of commissions shows exactly what entertainment does best in marrying head and heart to deliver a real treat to a diverse audience. From a joyful celebration of a national icon, to the intelligence and wit of Insert Name Here and Only Connect via the emotion and jeopardy of 5 Star Family Reunion and Who Dares Wins, these commissions emphasize the BBC's commitment to production right across the UK.” A second series of 5 Star Family Reunion has been commissioned for Saturdays on BBC One following a successful first series. The 8x60’ quiz show, which reunites families separated by time and distance, is hosted by Nick Knowles and is a co-production between 12 Yard Scotland in Glasgow and Boom Cymru in Cardiff. It will once again be produced and filmed in Scotland and will return to screens in 2016. The executive producers are Zoe Tait, Michael Mannes and Ronw Protheroe. 12 Yard Productions' Who Dares Wins will also return to BBC One for a further series of 13x50’ episodes. It will be produced and filmed in Glasgow and will be executive produced by Michael Mannes and Zoe Tait. Parasol and RDF have secured a two-series deal to continue production of BBC Two's Only Connect. The super smart 30’ quiz fronted by Victoria Coren Mitchell will feature an expanded number of episodes, taking it to a 37 week annual run. The series will continue to be produced and filmed in Cardiff. Green inc was also commissioned to produce The Many Faces of Ronnie Corbett for BBC Two that broadcast at Christmas. The 60’ programme was the latest commission for this continuing brand. The Fiona Bruce-fronted quiz Hive Minds will return to BBC Four for a second series. The Green inc and Salt Beef co-production will have a 13x30’ run, to air on BBC Four in 2016. It will be shot in the BBC studios in Belfast. The executive producers are Stephen Stewart and Jeremy Salsby. The brand new BBC Two entertainment show - Insert Name Here - to be fronted by Sue Perkins and featuring team captains Richard Osman and Josh Widdicombe will be co-produced by 12 Yard Scotland and Black Dog Media. The shows were commissioned by Channel Controllers Charlotte Moore, Controller BBC One; Kim Shillinglaw, Controller BBC Two and Four; and Cassian Harrison, Channel Editor BBC Four, with Acting Controller, Entertainment Commissioning, Alan Tyler. AF2 BBC Music Celtic Connections BBC Music Celtic Connections 2016 will see a bonanza of performances from the UK’s biggest winter music festival, showcased across television, radio and online. A dedicated BBC website goes live today (Wednesday, January 6) detailing a cracking line-up of performances available across television, radio and online to provide favourites from the Glasgow- based festival to audiences across the UK. Big names include Idlewild, Rickie Lee Jones, Siobhan Miller and Barbara Dickson, Bwani Junction, The Chieftains, Kris Drever, Julie Fowlis, Gretchen Peters and Baaba Maal. BBC Two Scotland will have two highlights shows from specially recorded BBC sessions at Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts, with further dedicated programming on BBC Radio Scotland, Radio 2, Radio 3 and BBC ALBA. Donalda MacKinnon, BBC Scotland’s Head of Programmes and Services, said; “We are very happy to be involved again at Celtic Connections with the BBC sessions at the CCA, and in bringing the delights of this festival to people throughout the country with our highlights programmes.” Donald Shaw, Artistic Director, Celtic Connections, said: "The BBC shows are a vibrant part of the Celtic Connections mix that each year presents the very best of world, roots and traditional music." Kicking off the coverage are preview clips with key presenters Mark Radcliffe, Ricky Ross, Bruce MacGregor and Vic Galloway available on bbc.co.uk/celticconnections In advance of the festival starting on January 14, they provide a flavour of the highlights to come. Radio 2 presenter Mark Radcliffe, who is this year marking three in a row at Celtic Connections, says: “What a joy it is to hit Glasgow and find pretty much every folk and roots artist of repute there, performing in some capacity or other.” Also keying up for the festival will be an exclusive session with James Grant and Friends, and This is the Kit, on Radio Scotland’s Quay Sessions, going out on Wednesday, January 13. Radio Scotland’s Janice Forsyth Show picks up the mantle on January 14 with two hours of performances – including Siobhan Miller and Barbara Dickson, James Robertson, Bwani Junction and Mairi Campbell – and an interview with festival director Donald Shaw. Travelling Folk will be live on Sunday, January 17, with the Scott Wood Band, Karen Matheson Trio, and the Calum Stewart Trio. Radio Scotland stablemates Vic Galloway and Another Country, presented by Ricky Ross, keep the momentum going with further radio and online sessions. Vic’s show on January 18 includes Trembling Bells, C Duncan and JR Green, while Ricky on January 19 has Angaleena Presley, Noah Gundersen and Rickie Lee Jones. Travelling Folk takes a disco spin on Celtic Connections midweek, while on Thursday, January 21 The Quay Sessions will have Idlewild and Frazey Ford. Jamie MacDougall’s Celebration of Scottish Song from the CCA features Arthur Johnston, Fiona Hunter and Mike Vass. On Burn’s night, January 25, Radio 2’s Mark Radcliffe will be live at the CCA and on air at 7pm, with Kris Drever, Julie Fowlis and Barbara Dickson, while Radio Scotland’s Get It On with Bryan Burnett that night has a Burn’s Supper, with a Celtic Connections flavour, live from BBC Scotland’s Pacific Quay headquarters. Mark Radcliffe returns on Radio 2 on Tuesday, January 26 at 7pm with Gretchen Peters, Teddy Thompson and Rhiannon Giddens. There will also be a selection from the BBC Radio coverage of Celtic Connections on the Radio 2 Folk Show on January 27. Radio 3 will this year broadcast more performances than ever before with three special World on 3 programmes. The first on Jan 15 will have music from Trio da Kali,and Les Poules a Colin, with Moh! Kouyate, Kornog and Baaba Maal confirmed for the following week’s programme and Bella Hardy and Caan on the third show. R3 will also broadcast on January 27 Bela Fleck and Liam O’Flynn in Concert with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. As well as the two BBC Scotland highlights programmes from the roster at the CCA, BBC ALBA will have further related programming including Songs of Gaelic Scotland, a special concert with Anne Lorne Gillies, who has assembled some of the Gaelic world’s most respected singers, and over the course of the hour-long programme, they will explore the universal themes of many of the most loved Gaelic songs - Love, the Sea, Clan and Conflict, Land and Exile. Anne’s guests include such luminaries as Arthur Cormack, Kathleen MacInnes, Angus MacLeod and a special appearance on stage by Anne’s daughter Rachel.After recording an incredible debut series of specially curated shows in 2015, BBC ALBA’s flagship music brand – Seirm returns to the Celtic Connections festival. Featuring a hand-picked, eclectic mix of Gaelic, trad, roots and Americana artists, each evening will offer a specially curated blend from the Celtic Connections roster.Hosted by Mary Ann Kennedy, Seirm will celebrate great, established artists, alongside breakthrough acts. Its performance space will offer an intimate environment, and provide a platform for unique collaborations, bringing together artists for one-off performances.BBC Scotland coverage culminates in the BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year from the City Halls on Sunday 31st January.
