Lean Business Solutions CHAMPION

MMTC is authorized by IACET to offer 5.6 CEUs for this program.

Developing internal Lean Manufacturing Champions helps organizations successfully implement proven techniques for eliminating waste. Our eight days of training equips a Lean Champion with the ability to provide sound business solutions for adapting from a traditional high volume industry to an emerging low volume / high mix business strategy.

MMTC Lean Manufacturing Champion Training offers open engaging lecture by multiple in- structors; team exercises, simula- tions, visual presentations, and hands-on discovery learn- ing in our unique real factory.

WEEK 1: PREPARING THE LEAN FOUNDATION First 4 days of training prepares the Lean Manufacturing Champion to manage the implementation process and define the value stream of an organization.  Strategic deployment of long-term continuous improvement practices  Understanding Lean Principles  Classification and elimination of waste  Identification of value and non-value added activities  Adjustment to the culture of Lean (with executive sponsor participation)  Training in value stream and process mapping

WEEK 2: APPLICATION OF LEAN TOOLS (INCLUDING LOW VOLUME/HIGH MIX) Last 4 days of training provides an in-depth understanding of Lean tools and techniques as well as describes the activities necessary to engage the entire company in continuous improvement through Kaizen events.

 In-classroom and factory environment demonstrations of proficiency  Hands-on learning with a goal of making Lean experts  The transfer of knowledge ties together the building blocks

Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center | 888-414-6682 | www.mmtc.org MMTC is an affiliate of the NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) and supported by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation MMTC designed Lean Manufacturing Champion training to promote sustainable continuous improvement efforts and support a long-term strategic deployment of lean manufacturing practices. The training is delivered by multiple instructors with in-between session assignments. Participants must attend all sessions and demonstrate proficiency in the subject matter in order to achieve a certificate.

Preparing the Lean Manufacturing Champion

 Methods are introduced to participants for how to manage cultural change

 Emphasis is placed on promoting positive and caring attitudes for all employees who will want to improve the workplace

 Attendees experience the power of teamwork through presentations and interactive exercises Participants use two approaches for “learning to see” the waste: 1. Value Stream Mapping of Current and Future state processes Simulations emphasize the importance of communication and process flow. 2. Process Mapping that creates a Swim Lane Analysis Matrix of manufacturing processes Participants then learn how to redesign manufacturing processes to minimize costs and eliminate wastes. Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques

/ Visual Workplace  Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)

 Standardized Work Methods  Pull Systems /

 Quick Changeover / Single Minute  Error Proofing (Poka-Yoke) Exchange of Dies (SMED)  Cellular Manufacturing and Plant Layout

Application of Lean Principles Participants learn how to apply Kaizen concepts. They will understand and share the benefits of :

 Lean characteristics

 Building blocks

 Key performance measures

 Facilitating a successful Kaizen event “Real Factory” reinforces contextual learning and promotes teamwork .

LEAN Champions focus on continuous improvement.
