Jay's Gaming Corner the university register page 09 a&e UH OH! CLASSIC ALERT! with Nick Bushway Hey, guys. I have decided to start a weekly column where I talk about the most classic things in the game. This is mostly for filling space in my section, but also because I love it when people make angry Yik Yak posts about me and my horrid opinions. This week, I will be covering the classic musical genre that is death core. I know what some of you are thinking, “Nick, you can’t just say a genre of music is a classic. It doesn’t work like that!” Well, if this was a week ago, I would agree, but I have since be- come a changed man. Deathcore is a genre so good that only one band has managed to make music deemed worthy of the title. That band is Death Grips. It all started when front man MC Ride met Drummer Zach Hill in their middle school geometry class (back in these days Ride went under the moniker Stefan Burnett). They were reluctantly paired together to write an essay on why rectangles matter. Though instead they decided to write their first hit song “Guillotine.” They received an underwhelming C- in geometry, but the song placed at #1 on the Deathcore billboard. This was also due to the fact that it was the first deathcore song ever made. This is a genre that means a lot to me because I really like Death Grips. Even Photo taken from Pinterest though they really scare me and I have yet to get past the first two songs on their first album, those two songs have really catchy beats and I like how MC Grips flows his raps. Someone also invited me to a Death Grips themed meme page on Facebook, and I haven’t figured out how to leave yet. That’s all I have for you guys this week. Maybe next time I can do a different genre, or if I manage to make it to the third Death Grips song, I can tell you all about it. Thanks for reading! - Nick “I was the only one in the running for this editor position” Bushway Jay’sJay Vocu Writer Gaming Corner Well, it is Jay, and I am back again with some more writings about games and stuff like that. As I promised last issue, I Photos taken from Wikipedia am going to cover BioShock: The Collection, which is the three BioShock games remastered for next generation con- soles. BioShock Remastered So BioShock Remastered is definitely part of why I feel this was worth getting the collection.The graphics have been completely redone and the opening sequence is definitely the best example of such. The rest of the game itself is still the same BioShock, but it runs smoothly and looks great. It may be a fresh coat of paint, but it’s still a fine coat of paint. In addition, there are now interviews included with the creators of the series that are placed throughout the game itself in the form of film canisters, which adds more collectibles in the game. Overall, this already beautiful game was made better by this remaster. BioShock 2 Remastered BioShock 2 was the black sheep of the BioShock series. You either love it, think it is meh, or hate it. Me, I thought it was okay when it initially came out, with my only major complaint being the tacked on multiplayer content. However, the remastered version of BioShock 2 in the collection does not have that at all, which gives it a plus in my mind. Furthermore, a lot of the graphics have received an update, much like BioShock 1, but to a lesser extent. However, I did start running into some game breaking glitches here, with objects failing to spawn until I was standing where the object was sup- posed to be, resulting in my being stuck. That happened several times throughout my first playthrough. My other complaint was the screen size, as, due to the character being a Big Daddy you are wearing a diving helmet the whole game. That means that the game is always played with a distorted, oval, fisheye perspective that got annoying very quickly. BioShock Infinite Remastered Well, here is where the collection fails for me. I love BioShock Infinite, but the version in BioShock: The Collection is one of the glitchiest, chaotic in speed (as in it speeds up, slows down, and lags horribly at the worst places), and lackluster remastering efforts I have played so far. I love this game, which is why this version is such a disappointment. Everything was gearing up for this to be great, with all the downloadable content being included and the game put on current generation consoles, but it disappointed. I encountered way too many game breaking glitches that often forced a level restart, and the game itself crashed numerous times to the point that I uninstalled the game from my hard drive for a while. Granted, I needed to make space on my hard drive, but the fact that I had no qualms about deleting one of my all time favorite games from my hard drive might say something. As A Whole So as a whole, BioShock: The Collection is worth it for the remastered versions of the first two Bio- Shock games, and while Infinite was the worst remaster of the three, the other two make up for it. While most of these games can be bought on last generation consoles for cheap, the remastering done on the first two games, as well as the extra content helps out in the re- masters’ corner. There is no doubt at all. This album is full of those soft gentle tunes to Maija Kittleson Onions The Mountain whisper to your lover and then a few to awkwardly rap-sing into your heart. If I am being honest, half Wilker Goats theB songs on this album are just pop bullshit that I do not care about. There are a few I was getting into, but I can Abby Guggisberg Anything Goes Cole Porter totally tell that this is for the pop heads of the world, and that is certainly not me at all. I really do like the singles on this album, like “Shape of You”, but again, I just don’t care. Ed Sheeran is a talented artist, but half of his songs really do not say a thing to me. Is that having to do with fame or is he just not great at writing lyrics to songs? Who knows? You decide. Photo taken from International Business times Kelly Oof, I don’t know about this one. I didn’t think that Divide was all bad, but the songs are certainly replicas of most of the pop songs one might hear on the ever-famous and lovable Twin Cities radio station KDWB. (All respect to KDWB, everybody needs a little pop in their life.) I wasn’t particularly C impressed with Ed’s rapping, though it was a nice try and we all ought to do something new once in awhile. The only song I thought had some unique characteristics was Shape of You, which managed to use some different instruments and stray from the acoustic love song sound. I definitely think that Ed Sheeran is really tal- ented. I’d just like to see something more diverse, even though he’s probably dragging in the big bucks. Jack Yeah this definitely sounds like an Ed Sheeran album. It wasn’t very unique compared to the rest of his albums. If you played a song by him and asked me what album it came from I definitely couldn’t tell B you. But, if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. Yeah, it’s kinda similar to his other albums, but it’s still good just like his other albums are. The dude is talented as all heck. His lyrics are great and his instrumentals incredible. I just can’t really get behind it because it doesn’t sound like a “new” album ya know? It’s just his older stuff repackaged. Like it’s good, but it’s not blow me away, holy heck, wow that’s so phenomenal. But, overall I enjoyed the album..

To ask other readers questions about Yeah! Refresh and try again. Most troubling, though, is Stanley's sometimes patronizing attitude towards women and people of colour. AM mainstream radio stations of the day ignored the vacant channels on the newer FM band. The shelves of libraries are well stocked with chunky hardbacks about the legends of rock, the story of the blues and the significance of jazz, but pop - the very stuff that turned most of us onto music in the first place - is seriously under represented.

The same way people are seeking out organically grown food, I think people are seeking out organically grown music at the same time. The moment I heard Chris Stapleton I was like, “Man I’ve got to track him down.” If I can just get to Nashville I’d run into him and I’d run into Jason Isbell and try to sucker them in to make records. I like to fly by the seat of my pants. Walk in and see what’s going to grab you that day. To me it was a really cool thing about linking really great artists that I like now, and linking Nashville, what Nashville is today. Taking kind of a snapshot of it.
