Quantity and composition of phytoplankton in Finnish inland waters. Publications of the Water Research lnstitute, National Board ofWaters, Finland, No. 37. A regional survey of the quantity and composition of phytoplankton in Finnish inland waters was carried out on the basis of 826 sampies taken iii the midsummer of 1963 and 1965. On the basis of this investigation and of other data collected for lakes studied, a scale of eutrophication was drawn up according to midsummer phytoplankton leveis. Lakes, in which the phyto plankton biomass (fresh weight) was below 0.2 mg/l, were classified as ultra oligotrophic, while leveis of 0.21—0.50 mg/l were designated oligotrophic. Quantities of biomass between 0.51 and 1.00 mgJl indicated incipient eutrophy, 1.01—2.5 mg/1 mesotrophy, 2.51—10.0 mg/l eutrophy and over 10.0 mg/l hypereutrophy. The dominating species were Centrales diatoms. With increasing eutrophication the amounts of Hormogonales blue-green algae and of PntococcaJes green aigae increased most markedly. A tota] of 680 taxons were identified from the samples. Species number increased with increasing biomass at least to biomass values of 5 mg/1. The usability of different quotients was examined and a new variable, the odour mdcx, was developed. The odour mdcx was very significantly correlated with biomass. In 1998 EEA published Guidelines for the implementation of the EUROWATERNET monitoring network for inland waters. In every Member Country a monitoring network should be designed according to these Guidelines and put into operation. Together these national networks will form the EUROWATERNET monitoring network that will provide information on the quantity and quality of European inland waters. In the future they will be developed to meet the requirements of the EU Water Framework Directive. This publication presents the Finnish EUROWATERNET monitoring network put into operation from the first of January, 2000. It includes a total of 195 river sites, 253 lake sites and 74 hydrological baseline sites. Groundwater monitoring network will be developed later. In addition, information about Finnish water resources and current monitoring strategies is given.     1 12.3.2013 Varkauden Urheiluseurat ry Käärmeniementie 15 B, 78200 VARKAUS 2012 toimintakertomus Yleistä Vuosi 2012 oli Varkauden Urheiluseurat ry:n 22. toimintavuosi! Varkautelaisten ja tämän myötä järjestön liikunta- ja urheiluseurojen laajapohjainen yhteistoiminta käynnistyi Varkauden kaupungintalon valtuustosalissa 13.3.1990. Järjestö on toiminut Varkauden kaupungissa toimivien jäsenyhdistysten välisenä yhdyssiteenä sekä tuki-, palvelu-, koulutus- ja edunvalvontaorganisaationa. Järjestön toiminta on pohjautunut varkautelaisten urheilu- ja liikuntatoimintaa toteuttavien yhdistysten väliseen tiiviiseen ja rakentavaan yhteistyöhön. Lasten leiritoiminta jatkui edellisten vuosien tapaan. Koululaisten loma- aikoina järjestettiin hyvään perinteiseen tapaan Varkauden kaupungin vapaa-aikatoimen liikuntapalveluiden kanssa yhteistyössä kolme (3) liikunnallista junnu-leiriä. Syyskuusta alkaen toteutettiin liikunnallista Kimppa Kerho-toimintaa Joutenlahden Kimppa Työpajoilla. Toiminta pohjautui Pohjois-Savon ELY- keskuksen avustukseen ja oman rahoitukseen. Kimppa Kerhon tavoitteena on ollut liikunnallisesti passiivisten lasten liikuttaminen ja liikunnan monipuolisten taitojen opettaminen. Pitkäaikaistyöttömien työllistämistä ja työllistämiseen kohdentuvaa seurojen ja yhdistysten palvelutoimintaa toteutettiin Är-yyt Kimpassa työllistämishankkeen myötä vaikutuksella helmikuun loppuun saakka. It presents various EU-funded star projects in North Savo. Leppävirta EU-programs may seem fairly distant but their effects are shown in multiple ways in the Varkaus daily lives of almost all inhabitants of North Savo. They promote the well-being of people,e, companies and the environment. North Savo uses three funds of the EU: the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Rural Development Programme for Mainland Finland. The province has received 379 million Euros through these funds between 2007 and 2013. Funding also offers significant benefits: the state, municipalities, companies, educational and research institutes and societies canalize co-funding to the projects. Project activities have created several new jobs and companies in North Savo. In addition, thousands of employees have received up-to-date education, various companies and organizations have received new research and education equipment and municipalities have been supported through building municipal infrastructure that helps industry and trade. All this promotes employment, competitiveness, innovation and production activities. Financial support from the European Structural Funds in North Savo are granted by the Regional Council of Pohjois-Savo, the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of North Savo and Finnvera. These organizations work in close cooperation with each other. Funding is aligned with provincial development programs.

Part I, Mobile Pasts, Finland and Beyond, brings forth how Finland’s past – often imagined TRANSNATIONAL as more sedentary than today’s mobile world – was molded by various short and long-distance mobilities that occurred FINNISH MOBILITIES: both voluntarily and involuntarily. In Part II, Transnational Influences across the Atlantic, the focus is on sociocultural PROCEEDINGS OF transnationalism of Finnish migrants in the early 20th cen- tury United States. Taken together, Parts I and II show how FINNFORUM XI mobility and transnationalism are not unique features of our FINNISH MOBILITIES TRANSNATIONAL time, as scholars tend to portray them. Even before modern communication technologies and modes of transportation, migrants moved back and forth and nurtured transnational ties in various ways. Part III, Making of Contemporary Finn- ish America, examines how Finnishness is understood and maintained in North America today, focusing on the con- cepts of symbolic ethnicity and virtual villages. Part IV, Con- temporary Finnish Mobilities, centers on Finns’ present-day emigration patterns, repatriation experiences, and citizen- ship practices, illustrating how, globally speaking, Finns are privileged in their ability to be mobile and exercise transna- tionalism.
