Edible Dough It’s time for a birthday party! To celebrate, we will be making two different types of edible cookie dough! That’s right - cookie dough you can actually eat without baking! We will make a confetti sugar cookie dough and a classic cookie dough. Feel free to swap out any of the mix-ins or flavors to suit your preferences or what you happen to have on hand. Have a grown-up help with three things right before class starts:

1. Begin by heat-treating 1 heaping cup of all-purpose to kill any bacteria. Microwave flour in microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until flour reaches 165˚ on an instant thermometer (approx. 60-90 seconds). 2. Melt 1 stick of unsalted in a microwave safe bowl. 3. Lay out all the ingredients and tools below.

*Don’t worry about portioning out the ingredients – we will do that as we walk through the recipe together. Just make sure you have the items below laid out and ready to use!

Ingredients: • 1 stick unsalted butter (melted) • Vanilla Extract (1/2 t total) • Brown Sugar, packed (1/4 C total) • Almond Extract (1/4 t total) • Granulated Sugar (1/2 C total) • White Chocolate Chips (3T) • Salt (1/4 t total) • Rainbow Sprinkles (2 t) • Milk (2 T total) • Mini Chocolate Chips (1/4 C) • 1 C flour - heat treated (see above)

Equipment/Tools: • Measuring Cups (¼, ½ C) • Spoon, fork and butter knife • Measuring Spoons (1 T, 1 t, ¼ t) • Silicone or rubber spatula • Small / Medium mixing bowls • Paper towels or dish towel

*Note: The ingredients laid out above are what you will need, in total, to make 2 cookie doughs. The items in orange can be easily substituted based on what you have on hand.

Step-by-step instructions: For Confetti Sugar Cookie Dough: 1. Measure out ¼ C of melted butter and add into a small mixing bowl. 2. Measure 5 T of granulated sugar and add to the butter. Using your fork, stir together the butter and sugar until the mixture becomes slightly creamy. 3. Add in one pinch of salt. 4. Measure 1/4t of vanilla extract and add to the bowl. 5. Measure 1/4t of almond extract and add to the bowl. (Optional) 6. Carefully measure out 2 t of milk and add to the same bowl. Using your fork, mix these ingredients together until well blended and slightly fluffy. 7. Measure ½ C flour by scooping spoonfuls of flour into your measuring cup and leveling with the back of a butter knife. 8. Add the flour to the butter and sugar mixture. Using your fork, mix well until there are no longer streaks of flour. You may need to break up some clumps of flour with the back of your fork. 9. Add a teaspoon of milk if the texture feels too dry or crumbly, and continue to mix well with your fork. 10. Measure 3 T of white chocolate chips and add to the bowl. 11. Measure 2 t of rainbow sprinkles and add into the dough. Mix until the chips and sprinkles are evenly spread throughout the dough. 12. Using a spatula, scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl, forming one ball of cookie dough. Place the ball of dough into a medium sized bowl and set aside.

For Dough: 1. Pour the remainder of your melted butter to a small mixing bowl. 2. Measure ¼ C of packed brown sugar and add to the butter. 3. Measure out 1 ½ T white sugar and to the butter and brown sugar. 4. Using your fork, stir together the butter and sugars until the mixture becomes slightly creamy.
