Chapter 01 1. Introduction McDonald's is one of the best-known brands worldwide. This case study shows how McDonald's continually aims to build its brand by listening to its customers. It also identifies the various stages in the marketing process. Branding develops a personality for an organization, product or service. The brand image represents how consumers view the organization. Branding only works when an organization behaves and presents itself in a consistent way. Marketing communication methods, such as advertising and promotion, are used to create the colors, designs and images, which give the brand its recognizable face. At McDonald's this is represented by its familiar logo - the Golden Arches. Marketing involves identifying customer needs and requirements, and meeting these needs in a better way than competitors. In this way a company creates loyal customers. The starting point is to find out who potential customers are - not everyone will want what McDonald's has to offer. The people McDonald's identifies as likely customers are known as key audiences. McDonald’s has come up with advertising campaigns to help combat the dropping sales such as its New Taste Menu, and this was geared toward the healthier consumer. The message was that the company was tasty and nutritious, friendly folks and fun could be found at McDonald’s. 1.1 Problem Statement McDonald’s has been forced to contend with a number of potential obstacles to growth in recent years, most notably stark criticism and a less-than-favorable global economic climate that has seen consumers reduce their discretionary spending. -

The past three months we have had extremely good weather and a lot of things have been happening which has made time go by very quickly. By the time you receive this newsletter, winter will have arrived and you will have time to read it! Since the last newsletter, the Association was invited to attend the launch of a rewrite of a book written by an Australi- an author on Chinese ANZAC’s. He had omitted that there were also New Zealand ANZAC’s, so it was rewritten to include the New Zealand soldiers during World War One. Robert Ting attended on behalf of the Association. A day excursion to the Wairarapa was made in early March. -

Blueberries are the official berries of Nova Scotia, Canada. The anthocyanin present in blueberries is good for eyesight. Blueberries are the fruits of a shrub that belong to the heath (Ericaceae) family whose other members include the cranberry and bilberry as well as the azalea, mountain laurel and rhododendron. Blueberries grow in clusters and range in size from that of a small pea to a marble. Blueberries are native to North America where they grow throughout the woods and mountainous regions in the United States and Canada. This fruit is rarely found growing in Europe and has only been recently introduced in Australia. -

Anyway, this pie is so easy and has stood the test of time. What makes it different from other blueberry pies is: it's mostly blueberries, not crust or sugar; and the combination of spices is superb! And it doesn't matter if you're not a chef or have never made a pie before! Following these illustrated directions ANYONE can cook a perfect blueberry pie! Ingredients and Equipment (per 9 inch deep dish pie) 3 to 4 cups Blueberries - fresh or frozen (without syrup) Sweetener: One 9 inch deep-dish Pie Plate - (grocery stores sell both o 2/3 cup granulated (ordinary disposable pie pans and glass pans. LET’S PRESERVE FRUIT PIE FILLINGS General Tasty fruit fillings for pies, pastries and dessert toppings can be prepared at home. Clear Jel®, a modified starch, produces excellent consistency even after fillings are canned and baked. Other household starches break down, resulting in a runny sauce. There are two types of Clear Jel®, instant and regular. “Instant” does not require heat to thicken. The product will thicken once the liquid is added. “Regular” must be heated. When canning pie fillings, be sure to purchase the “regular” Clear Jel® product. Clear Jel® is currently not available in grocery stores. Check the last page of this flyer for a local list and web sites. One pound of Clear Jel® equals about 3 cups. Because the variety of fruit may alter the flavor of a fruit pie, prepare a single quart first. Adjust the sugar and spices in the recipe to suit your personal preferences. How- ever, the amount of lemon juice should never be altered because it insures the safety and storage stability of the fillings. When using frozen berries, select unsweetened fruit. If sugar has been added, rinse it off while the fruit is frozen. Collect, measure and use the juice from thawing fruit to partially replace the water specified in the recipe. Use ¼ cup Clear Jel® per quart or 1 ¾ cups for 7 quarts. Apple Pie Filling Ingredients 1 Quart 7 Quarts Blanched, sliced fresh apples 3 - 1/2 cups 6 quarts Granulated sugar ½ cup 3 cups Clear Jel® ¼ cup 1-1/2 cups Cinnamon ½ tsp. 1 tbsp. Every single day, Maia is tasked with ensuring that every cog in the machine that is RMHC New Zealand’s Auckland facilities is turning smoothly. Some days, she sorts last minute maintenance issues. Others, she lends a kind ear to families who’ve had a tough day on the ward. Her role is a constant juggle with a simple mission in mind: providing much needed accommodation and support to the hundreds of people in her care. Maia’s COVID-19 story is special. During levels 3 & 4, she chose to self-isolate from her family - as her son has compromised immunity. Maia put her own comfort and care aside to ensure that vulnerable families with a child in a hospital away from home were cared for and protected throughout the Frontline worker Maia and her family lockdown period. The view from the inside... Over the past few months, we’ve had to restrict our common areas, including our shared kitchens, cancel supermarket outings, as well as volunteer cook nights. Because of this, RMHC New Zealand families Our lovely staff and volunteers keeping our Ronald following have predominantly facilities clean and families fed safety procedures been housed at off- site, self-contained, and delivering groceries to families with their own accommodation and we’ve had to completely change kitchens, so all House families could stay safe in their our foodservice model. -

THE VALIDITY OF ODD PRICING A thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Business Studies at Massey University Judith L Holdershaw 1995 ABSTRACT Odd pricing refers to the practice of pricing goods just below the nearest round figure, for example, $9.99 instead of $10.00, or $1,995 instead of $2,000. to produce higher than expected demand at the price level concerned. Although the practice of odd pricing is prevalent in retailing, there is a lack of empirical evidence to verify the effectiveness of odd pricing as a strategy to increase demand. This thesis reports the findings of a study designed to test the assumption that odd pricing produces higher than expected demand resulting in a "kinked" demand curve. That is, a demand curve which is inconsistent with the traditional law of demand. Purchase probabilities, used to measure estimated demand for six household products at four price levels, were obtained from a sample of 300 consumers. For each product. showcards featuring two prices, one slightly above an even price point and one slightly belo~ the same price point. were presented to all 300 consumers. These prices served the purpose of creating top and bottom "anchor" points of the demand curve for the product concerned. The sample was further divided into three subsarnples of 100 consumers who each viewed either an appropriate even or odd "test" price. -
