One of the primary pharmacological treatments for anxiety and depression is the antidepressant fluoxetine (Flx). Maternal stress, depression, and Flx exposure are known to effect neurodevelopment of the offspring; however, their combined effects have been scarcely studied. In this thesis, we examine the combined effects of maternal stress during pregnancy and perinatal exposure to Flx on the behaviour and the biochemical outcomes of mice as adults.

One of their sayings is “The stage is the school of life.” A very large percentage are good musicians, so that wherever even a small group lives, they are sure to have a very good band. Ruzena Rosicka They love their native music, with its pronounced and unusual rhythm especially when played by their somewhat martial bands. A Guide to the Cornhusker State Czechs—A Nation of Musicians An importantCzechoslovakian folklore is music. Song and music at all times used to accompany man from the cradle to the grave and were a necessary accompaniment of all important family events. The most popular of the musical instruments were bagpipes, usually with violin, clarinet and cembalo accompaniment. Typical for pastoral soloist music were different types of fifes and horns, the latter often monstrous contraptions, several feet long. Traditional folk music has been at present superseded by modern forms, but old rural musical instruments and popular tunes have been revived in amateur groups of folklore music or during folklore festivals. Theory and practical applications meet in the book, linking activities and resources to current classroom concerns--to multiculturalism, imagination in reading and writing, critical thinking, and expanding language experiences. The first part of the book examines the uses of metaphor in constructing meaning. The second part takes up issues related to multiple perspectives--using metaphors to experience other lives, and exploring cultures through traditions. The third part of the book is devoted to a consideration of the history and current status of the English language and focuses on using cross-cultural stories in the English classroom, offering a number of resources for teaching multicultural literature in English. The fourth part examines the sensory Ixperience of metaphors by seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, and touching with the imagination.

John Biggart The Rehabilitation of Bogdanov 1 Between 1985 and 1991 the Communist Party of the Soviet Union under its General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev lifted restrictions on freedom of expression in the Soviet Union, virtually abolished censorship of the press, and set in motion the reform process which in August 1991 would bring about the ending of Communist Party rule. 2 One of the objectives of Gorbachev’s policy of glasnost’ was to encourage more free enquiry into the history of the Soviet régime, and, in particular, to dissociate the Party from many of Stalin’s policies of the late 1920s to 1950s. 3 In the evolution of this policy, the 70th anniversary of the October Revolution, was a landmark. 4 Following the Plenum of the Central 1 This is an edited version of the Introduction to: Bogdanov and his Work. A guide to the published and unpublished works of Alexander A. Bogdanov (Malinovsky 1973—1928) , edited by John Biggart, Georgii Gloveli and Avraham Yassour. Ashgate. 1998. [ISBN 1 85972 6321 2]. The introduction has not been updated to take account of the substantive amount of work that has been published on Bogdanov since 1998.
