The International Freedom Festival celebrated the National Days of both Canada and the United States of America. This festival is between Canada Day and Independence Day and boasts one of the world’s largest fireworks displays over the Detroit River. The event brings in almost 1 million people together on both sides of the border. The Algonquin is the only international local history society. It was founded in 1934 and is still active. Finally, the Media City Film Festival is another international collaboration between the two countries since 1994. This festival spans five days with performances, screenings, exhibitions and artist’s discussion panels.
