Box 1346 Ann Arbor, Ml 48106-1346 UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON LIBRARY ABSTRACT This study examines place marketing as a planning tool for local authorities, focusing on the type of marketing designed to attract jobs and investment to an area. Two strands of research emerge from a literature review. Firstly a need to update a 1984 study of local authority marketing activity as place marketing has evolved and escalated since then, and secondly, a need to determine the outcomes from place marketing. A survey of local authorities revealed a 96.5 per cent involvement in place marketing activities in 1995 and an analysis of the same local authorities’ marketing brochures demonstrates both innovative and common approaches. These brochures also show that although many local authorities are operating an equal opportunities policy, these ideals are not filtering through to all aspects of their work.

Local Government Boundary Commission For England Report No.391 LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOUNDARY COMMISSION FOR ENGLAND CHAIRMAN Sir Nicholas Morrison KCB DEPUTY CHAIRMAN Mr J M Rankin MEMBERS Lady Bowden Mr J T Brockbank Mr R R Thornton CBE. DL Mr D P Harrison Professor G E Cherry To the Rt Hon William Whitelaw, CH MC MP Secretary of State for the Home Department PROPOSALS FOR THE FUTURE ELECTORAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE COUNTY OF CHESHIRE 1. The last Order under Section 51 of the Local Government Act 1972 in relation to the electoral arrangements for the districts in the County of Cheshire was made on 28 September 1978. As required by Section 63 and Schedule 9 of the Act we have now reviewed the electoral arrangements for that county, using the procedures we had set out in our Report No 6. 2. We informed the Cheshire County Council in a consultation letter dated 12 January 1979 that we proposed to conduct the review, and sent copies of the letter to the district councils, parish councils and parish meetings in the county, to the Members of Parliament representing the constituencies concerned, to the headquarters of the main political parties and to the editors both of » local newspapers circulating in the county and of the local government press. Notices in the local press announced the start of the review and invited comments from members of the public and from interested bodies. 3» On 1 August 1979 the County Council submitted to us a draft scheme in which they suggested 71 electoral divisions for the County, each returning one member in accordance with Section 6(2)(a) of the Act.

  • Descendants of Sampson Toovey and Katherine Shrimpton of Amersham
DESCENDANTS OF SAMPSON TOOVEY AND KATHERINE SHRIMPTON OF AMERSHAM January 2017, revised August 2017 1 PREFACE This research was undertaken at the request of the Curator of Amersham Museum, Emily Toettcher, who wanted information about the Toovey family members who had lived in the building that now houses the museum. It was very soon apparent that much investigation had already been carried out. The trigger- factor was probably the death of Ronald Frank Toovey on 14 August 1980 in Wycombe Hospital. He was the last survivor of the four children of Frederick Samson Toovey and Sarah Ann Clare. He was unmarried, childless and intestate and, although his solicitors twice attended to try to get a Will drawn, it was too late. The solicitors commissioned a genealogist to act as heir hunter and eventually heirs were identified and the estate distributed. This seems to have generated interest in their ancestry among the descendants of Ronald Frank’s grandfather Henry Toovey (1822-1910). At that time there was considerable interest also in exploring the capabilities of computers for storing and analysing genealogical data. The Toovey family featured in an article in Computers in Genealogy in March 1993 1. In 1995 Richard Boyles wrote Toovey’s in Amersham, My Family History and kindly presented a copy to Amersham Museum. While carrying out this research he became aware of Dr DW Jopling who two years later would publish The Descendants of Toovey of Watlington, born ca 1540. A copy of this, accompanied by a roll pedigree, is in the Library of the Society of Genealogists in London.

Caradon District Council Election Results 1973-2007 Colin Rallings and Michael Thrasher The Elections Centre Plymouth University The information contained in this report has been obtained from a number of sources. Election results from the immediate post-reorganisation period were painstakingly collected by Alan Willis largely, although not exclusively, from local newspaper reports. From the mid- 1980s onwards the results have been obtained from each local authority by the Elections Centre. The data are stored in a database designed by Lawrence Ware and maintained by Brian Cheal and others at Plymouth University. Despite our best efforts some information remains elusive whilst we accept that some errors are likely to remain. Notice of any mistakes should be sent to [email protected]. The results sequence can be kept up to date by purchasing copies of the annual Local Elections Handbook, details of which can be obtained by contacting the email address above. Front cover: the graph shows the distribution of percentage vote shares over the period covered by the results. The lines reflect the colours traditionally used by the three main parties. The grey line is the share obtained by Independent candidates while the purple line groups together the vote shares for all other parties. Rear cover: the top graph shows the percentage share of council seats for the main parties as well as those won by Independents and other parties. The lines take account of any by- election changes (but not those resulting from elected councillors switching party allegiance) as well as the transfers of seats during the main round of local election.

This is part of a series of ancient oakwood remnants in the Fleet Valley. Most of the sessile oaks are over 120 years old and some are over 200 years. The understorey is mainly hazel with ash, alder, birch and wych elm also present. Some sycamore and beech were planted early in the last century. The wood has had many hundreds of years of productive use, having been coppiced for the production of charcoal for the smelting of iron, brass and copper between 1830 and the early 1900s.

The first of these was Objective 2: Increase the attractiveness of the environment to: local communities; stakeholder organisations; visitors; and businesses. The indicators or evidence for judging whether this objective has been achieved was the level of support for public art within local communities and stakeholder organisations. Based on the research evidence, we can conclude that there has been support from local communities and stakeholder organisations and the programme has increased the attractiveness of the environment to local communities, stakeholder organisations and visitors (no businesses were consulted). The research indicates that the programme has made every effort to consult with, and include stakeholders, within its remit for the development of public art.
