Team of the Week: 2nd XV

1st XV Report Our clash against Shore marked our first home game of the posts, breaking through the Shore defence the GPS season, allowing us to prove ourselves in front untouched. However, conceding 3 simple tries put us too of a familiar crowd. Fortunately, several players had far behind on the scoreboard, being unable to recover returned from injury, providing us with a full strength the lead and unfortunately being defeated with a final starting squad for this important fixture. The 1st XV was score of 35-12. ready to attack against Shore, inspired by the remarkable victory of our 2nd XV, 24-17.

Perhaps our focus on attack during the week led us from our defensive goals as a team, as Shore scored two tries, breaking soft tackles and making quick metres. We soon realised the necessity to shift momentum and returned to our defensive roots and positional play, applying pressure and securing an essential turnover in our attacking half. This led to a lineout close to the line, where we executed a swift move to cross the line for the first time.

Our attacking of the set piece remained exceptional in the second half, where Daniel Zhang scored a try under

Going into the game against Joeys we knew that it was efforts in an attempt to reinvigorate our approach to the not going to be easy even though we were playing the rest of the season. Cs and we knew Sydney High had not had a very good history against Joeys because they have been such a Honoured to play on the historic St Joseph’s pitch, we big rugby school for many years. This made us even began the game matching quite well with our opponents, more determined to win. We were straight away on the who were considered to be one of the best in the 3rd XV back foot when Joeys scored the first try. Through the competition. We played well with our field position, and man of match, Joshua Zheng's, great running we were mustered remarkable defensive efforts to shut down our able to go to the break with the score line of 7-7. Once oppositions fast paced attacking formation. again we were on the back foot when they scored again increasing their lead to 12-7. We were able to hit back Although losing, we move beyond our disappointment with two consecutive tries and take the lead to 17-12. and use it as a learning curve to improve in our future Although we were ahead, we still had 5 minutes to go matches. Every game is an opportunity to put all our and we all knew just one try could change the whole efforts onto the field with nothing to lose, and only game. However, although we didn't get the ball much in become better players in the process. the last five minutes our defence held strong and we made all our tackles to come out on top. This keeps us CHS U16s Success undefeated (3 from 3) and we hope to keep this status A huge congratulation to after playing our next game against Kings. Great work Archie Fox who was selected boys! to start in the 1stXV for CHS U16’s. What a great 1st XV Report achievement! The third round of the official GPS season saw us face a tough and physical opponent at Hunters Hill, St Joseph’s Well done from all involved College. Training throughout the week had been tireless, with SBHS Rugby. although our squad was beginning to feel the strain of Mr Cotton playing week after week, with somewhat disappointing MIC Rugby outcomes. Stan Jones Cup 2016 On 24 and 25 May, the top four players of the High first grade tennis team headed out to Rockdale Tennis Centre to take part in the annual CHS Stan Jones Cup. Our team comprised of Matthew O’Sullivan, Andre Putilin, Samuel Yu and myself. We came into the tournament with a lot of confidence that we could finally beat our bitter rivals, Endeavour Sports High.

On the first day of the tournament we played very strong RIFLE SH TING tennis against our Pool B opponents and made it through to the semi-finals, which were on day 2 of the Cessnock Shoot 2016 tournament. The very next day we once again proved to On 21 May 2016, 16 Shooters consisting of Ciaran be too strong against our semi-final opponents Menai Farrell (12M), Julian Tu (12E), Kentaro Takahata (12M), High School and set up another blockbuster rubber John Huang (12R), Denny Fu (12M), Daniel Tian (11E), against the old enemy, Endeavour Sports High. Thankfully Andre Putilin was the perfect man to get High over the line dominating his opponent to a 6-0 win and We woke up early and immediately packed our tents up, finally sealing a long awaited victory against our arch so that we wouldn’t have to do so later in the day. We rivals to win the Stan Jones Cup for the 2nd time in 15 also set up our rifles for the shoot, which was to be 3 years. It was a supreme team effort from our boys to get matches of 2 sighters and 10 shots, at 600 yards, the victory. Hopefully we can emulate this success in the but after some technical difficulties with the next round of the CHS State Schools Championships electronic targets the first match was declared invalid.
