Contact Mikela 86 SWINDERBY PHONE BOX has been lovingly restored by Simon Longson. It is regu- larly decorated by villagers to celebrate certain times of year. Look out for the next decoration and get involved. The more the merrier. 7 Continued……...WHAT GOES ON IN SWINDERBY? CHOPS Central Heating Oil Purchasing Scheme is a simple organisation designed to save us all some money on our central heating oil. I collect orders about 6 times a year. On my buying day, I get the best price possible and advise everyone where the oil is coming from and the current price. The saving comes from the bulk delivery into the village which normally means at least one full tanker load and 25+ deliveries. Payment depends on the supplier, but the worst scenario is that they phone for a debit card prior to delivery (they all charge a premium for Credit Cards). I do not handle any payment and have no vested interest in any oil company. If you run out of oil between deliveries, you can make your own arrangements and I am not in the least bit offended.

  • Vfth Issue 126 Feb/Mar 2021
View from the Hill Thorpe on the Hill News Issue No 126 – February/ March 2021 Bimonthly Newsletter Sunset over the Eric East Lake. Photograph by Liz South The Newsletter is sponsored for you by Thorpe on the Hill Parish Council Editorial Hello to all and welcome to our new residents. It must be quite strange moving into the village in the current circumstances as there is no village socialising. We can only accept the way things are and be positive about the future. Hopefully, the Scouts, Umbrellas, Thorpe Craft and Natter and the Bowls club will be able to restart sometime in 2021; and of course the re-opening of the Oliver Roper Centre which can be booked for social events. For this Issue, details of all these Village Clubs and organisations have been omitted but will, of course, be included again when they are able to open for business. Thanks as always to the contributors to the newsletter. Lawrie Poole’s article covers some very relevant issues which need to be addressed and I would like to hear any opinions and suggestions to rectify the problems for the next newsletter. It has been mentioned to me that dogs have been seen off their leads in Whisby Nature park beyond the permitted area. The reason why the rule exists is to help protect the wildlife, so if nothing else let us “lead” by example. The next edition will be in April as we move towards Spring. Any contributions are welcome as this is your magazine and newsletter. Cut off date for submissions will be Monday 15th March 2021.

  • To Extract Sand and Gravel from Land to The
Agenda Item 5.2 Regulatory and Other Committee Open Report on behalf of Richard Wills Executive Director for Environment & Economy Report to: Planning and Regulation Committee Date: 13 April 2015 Subject: County Matter Application – N23/27/64/0385/14 Summary: Planning permission is sought by Lafarge Tarmac (agent: Heaton Planning) to extract sand and gravel from land to the west of Whisby Quarry (adjacent to Swinderby Road and Beehive Lane); to utilise the existing quarry infrastructure, plant site and access onto Eagle Road to facilitate the development; and to restore the site to a mixture of water bodies, grassland, woodland and agriculture at land within and adjacent to Whisby Quarry in the parishes of Eagle and Swinethorpe, Doddington and Whisby and Thorpe on the Hill. The proposed development would constitute an extension to the existing Whisby Quarry with the restoration scheme being an extension of the approved restoration for the Quarry. The proposed development has been the subject of an Environmental Impact Assessment under the Town and Country Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2011. The key issues to be considered in this case are the principle of extracting sand and gravel from this site, flood risk and drainage, highways and rail infrastructure impacts, the implications of the loss of a Public Right of Way, impacts on the open countryside, landscape and agricultural land, impacts on nature conservation, impacts in relation to noise and dust and the impacts of the development on the historic landscape, with specific reference to the setting of nearby Listed Buildings. It is concluded that the principle of the extraction of sand and gravel is acceptable and in line with the approach of providing an adequate supply of minerals.
