We offer a further range of free courses to help adults with learning disabilities and learning difficulties to develop new skills in a supportive environment. For more information, please email [email protected] or phone 024 7635 3065. Courses English, Maths and ESOL: Are you thinking about improving your English, maths or language skills? With the help of our friendly, experienced tutors, you will receive support to build your confidence in these subjects and improve your employment prospects, help support your children and gain qualifications. All courses are FREE (there may be qualification fees for ESOL courses). If you are new to our service, we will work with you to identify the level of course that will suit you best. Please allow 1.5 hours when enrolling for your first course (please do not bring children with you). ESOL Maths: A 12-week course that will help you to work on the specific language needed to gain a maths qualification at different levels. Topics covered will help with maths-related day to day activities, such as reading dates and time, appointments, banking, budgeting and travelling. There will be the opportunity to move onto a Functional Skills Maths course once language skills have developed. Computing: Introduction to Computers/Online Basics: If you have little or no previous experience with computers, these courses are for you. After getting used to the keyboard and mouse, you will learn how to search the web, create basic documents and send and receive emails. You will also gain an Entry Level qualification. Computing: ITQ Level 1: If you have some basic computer experience, this course will help you develop a range of skills and knowledge relevant to the workplace and gain a Level 1 qualification. Successful completion of an ICT assessment is required. Computing: ITQ Level 2: If you have good computer experience, this course will help you develop a range of skills and knowledge relevant to the workplace and gain a Level 2 qualification. Successful completion of an ICT assessment is required. Computing: Next Steps with Computers: If you have some basic computer skills already, this course will allow you to take them a step further. Content will include file management skills and staying safe online, but can also be adjusted to take account of your own particular needs and interests. Computing: Intro to Google Apps: Heard of Google? Think it’s just an internet search engine? This course will help you to develop skills to maximise the potential of your computer using the Google Apps Suite. Software applications can be expensive, so why not learn how to use some of the many FREE online apps available in this suite, including Gmail, Google Docs & Sheets, Google Drive, Google Maps and many more. Basic computer skills are required. Computing: Intro to Microsoft Paint 3D: Feeling creative? Simple step by step instructions through some of the different functions and features of this program will show you how to move from drawing simple lines to creating unique 2D art and building 3D objects. If you’d like to experiment with the brushes, shapes, text and effects, whilst having some fun, then this is the course for you. Basic computer skills and good mouse skills are required. Adult Learners with Learning Disabilities and/or Learning Difficulties: Beginners ICT: To help adults with learning disabilities and/or learning difficulties to develop new ICT skills in a supportive environment. Art: Drawing & Painting: You will develop skills in sketching, shading, observation and composition of objects. Following this, you will use techniques and approaches to apply colour to your work using inks and acrylics. Suitable for beginners and those with a little experience. Limited spaces available. Art: Mixed Media (using found objects): This is your chance to have fun, be innovative and really let your creative side go! Experiment with different paints, inks, fabrics and much more to create texture and interest in your work. Crafts: Introduction to Patchwork & Quilting: Learn more about the origin of these sewing techniques, discover the amazing variety of designs and have a go for yourself. Please bring a basic sewing kit with you. Crafts: Pop up Christmas Cards: Learn how to create your own stunning cards to send to friends and family, with a real personal touch. Original designs made by you that you can’t buy on the high street. Crafts: Christmas Crafts: Stand out from the crowd - crafty ideas to make beautiful decorations for your home during the festive period. Crafts: Christmas Gift Wrapping: Add the wow factor to your gifts! Approach gift wrapping from a new perspective and create your own gift tags. History: Introduction to Family History: If you are interested in researching your family history but don’t know where to begin, this course will provide the skills needed to get you started. Explore popular tracing websites, then progress to further research methods including examining parish registers, wills and probate records. NB. Because of the internet research required in this course, basic IT skills will be required. Floristry: Autumn Flowers: Learn how to make the most of seasonal flowers with tips and tricks of the trade. There will be an autumnal theme in the topics covered. NB. You will be required to supply your own flowers on the advice of the tutor. Floristry: Winter/Christmas Flowers: Learn how to make the most of seasonal flowers with tips and tricks of the trade. Languages: Introduction to British Sign Language: This course provides the opportunity to learn about Deaf awareness and will provide an introduction on how to communicate with Deaf people using BSL, at a beginner’s level. Languages: Spanish Term 1: This course provides an enjoyable way to gain an introduction of the Spanish language. You will find out how to use commonly used simple phrases and questions to help you to get by in everyday situations. This course is suitable for complete beginners without previous experience of this language. NB. limited places available. Life Skills: A Focus on Well Being & Self Care: With the ever increasing stress of day-to-day living this course is a must for those trying to juggle all aspects of life. Here you will discover simple habits and simple practices to allow you to flourish. Life Skills: Just the Job: This free course is designed for job seekers who have lost their confidence and are looking for support to help them map out their next steps towards seeking work. This 3 week course will provide you with the space to think creatively about the skills you have and the next steps you can take to believe in yourself and get the job you want. Life Skills: Singing for Fun: Do you sing in the shower, in the car, or whenever you hear one of your favourite songs? Would you like to be part of a singing group? If you have answered yes to any of these questions, then this is the course for you! If this is your first course with Adult and Community Learning, please allow 1.5 hours for your visit so that we can work with you to identify which level of course will suit you best. Fees and Concessions Where fees apply, you will see these listed for each course as follows: A This is the full fee. You will pay this if you do not qualify for a discount. B This is the fee rate for learners aged 65 or over. Please bring evidence. C  This rate applies for learners, or their unwaged dependants, in receipt of one of the following benefits: Employment and Support Allowance, Housing/ Council Tax Benefit (not single person’s discount), Incapacity Benefit, Job Seekers Allowance, Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Income Support, Working Tax Credit (annual income below £16,105). If you are claiming fee remission, some form of proof of eligibility will be required. For example, a bus pass or passport for an age-related concession, or a letter from a relevant benefit agency that includes your name (please contact us if you have any queries). For ESOL courses, please bring this evidence in order to gain remission from examination fees. For ESOL and some ICT courses, you may be eligible for a free course and exams if you are employed but earn less than £16,009.50 per year. You would need to bring evidence of your earnings to enrolment, such as a recent pay slip. We can accept payment by cash, cheque or credit/debit card. We can only accept learners who are aged 19 or over on 31/08/2019. Most learners are required to have been permanently resident in the UK, the EU or EEA for the last 3 years. If these criteria do not apply to you, please contact us. We are not funded to work with learners living in the Combined Authority area. If you pay your council tax to , , Solihull, Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley or Wolverhampton we may not be able to enrol you, or different fee rates may apply. Please contact us for more information.
