    12 Days of Promax: A Year of Our Favorite Works 12.16.2019 A year goes by so quickly but at the same time, season three of Netflix's Stranger Things and even the long-anticipated eighth and final season of HBO's Game of Thrones feels like eons ago. Everyone is on to season three of Netflix's The Crown with Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies and Helena Bonham-Carter wowing as Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and Princess Margaret; Disney+'s Star Wars original The Mandalorian, which introduced the world to Baby Yoda; and the finale of HBO's electric Watchmen. All of those shows and so many more build their buzz with help from members of the Promax community. Works-those basic 60-, 30-, and 15-second spots that get the message across-are still at the heart of what entertainment marketers do, although these days they don't just flit across the airwaves in between program breaks, they also live online and on social media. Some of these works are special enough to be broken out as a Hot Spot, others are part of larger campaigns. But for the busiest creatives, work is just what they spend their days doing. It is one of the few examples of global messages of mass culture being based on Polish creativity. The recognition of “The Witcher”, due to the Netflix production, soon contributed to building the national pride of Polish people, and at the same time sparked a discussion in Central and Eastern European countries on the consequences of the multimedia adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s prose. Questions about the dissonance between the Slavic and universal dimensions of “The Witcher” in relation to the original novels and their adaptations are a part of the traditional discourse on the adaptability of literature and its consequences for the reception by the audience. This article tries to capture the specific character of the adaptations of Andrzej Sapkowski’s literature from the point of view of typology, known from the literature of the subject, as well as to answer the question about the consequences of the discrepancy between the original book and its adaptations in the form of a film, a TV series, and computer games.

    International Journal of Communication 15(2021), 545–562 1932–8036/20210005 The Shifting Image of Hegemonic Masculinity in Contemporary U.S. Television Series LISA CUKLANZ ALI EROL Boston College, USA As programming that focused on men and how they related to their families through their violent adventures in the world saw a surge in recent decades, several examples from this period witnessed a shifting image of this brand of masculinity toward the inclusion of fatherhood and paternal nurturance. These series display a performance of masculinity that centers on caring and nurturing family while simultaneously displaying traits of hegemonic masculinity such as use of violence, stoicism, and action orientation. These shows—Prison Break, The Mandalorian, The Witcher—we argue, offer a new performance of masculinity. Although these shows also strongly associate hegemonic masculinity with violence, the male characters’ relationships with family take a central role as a driving force for the plot. We find this shift in display of masculinity to be significant in that it centers family relationships for protagonists in the traditionally hypermasculine genres of the prison drama and the western.     A lack of flæ:r A comparative study of English accent stereotypes in fantasy role-playing games COURSE: English for subject teachers, 61-90 PROGRAM: Ämneslärarprogrammet AUTHOR: Eugen Hellström EXAMINOR: Julia Forsberg TERM: Abstract This study analyzes the use of linguistic stereotypes in two fantasy role-playing games, Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt and Dragon Age: Origins with a focus on phonology. It investigates how accent stereotypes are used and why they are important for characters in video games, for example regarding prestige and attractiveness. It analyzes each character from a character type perspective: hero, villain, comic-relief, mentor and lover. The results show that there are accent stereotypes in fantasy role-playing games and that they are, most likely, deliberately placed as such. It also shows that standard variations of English are mainly used for characters that serves a purpose to the story while non- standard variations are used for characters that serves no purpose to the game other than working as tools to enrich the world with a sense of life.
