Jahangir Amuzegar: A Bio-bibliography Mohamad Tavakoli-Targhi and Hassanali Mehran This bilingual special issue of Iran Nameh is dedicated to Dr. Jahangir Amuzegar for his lifetime service to Iranian Studies on the occasion of his 95th birthday. Jahangir Amuzegar was born on January 13, 1920, in Tehran, Iran. The eldest son of Habibollah Amuzegar--a prominent educator, jour- nalist, lawyer, and diplomat--he finished his primary, secondary, and college education in Iran. A graduate of the University of Tehran, he received a de- gree in Law in 1941 followed by a degree in Political Science in 1942. He continued his graduate studies in Economics in the United States with an M.A. from the University of Washington (1948) and a Ph.D. from UCLA (1955). In addition to teaching at UCLA (1951-1953), he served as a lectur- er at Whittier College (1953) and the University of Michigan (1953-1955). He was Assistant Professor of Economics at Pomona College (1955-1956) and Michigan State University (1956-1958), and was Associate Professor at Occidental College (1958-1961). During this period he also served as the Economic Advisor to Iran’s Plan Organization (1956-1957). He was granted a Brookings Institute Fellowship in 1960/1961. While conducting research in Tehran, he was appointed as the Minister of Commerce in June 1961. Serving in this position until 1962, he was subsequently reassigned to be the Minister of Finance. He became Chairman of the High Council of the National Iranian Oil Company in 1962. From 1963 until 1979 he was Iran’s Ambassador-at-Large in Washington and served as the Chief of the Iranian Economic Mission. From 1974 to 1979 he also served as the Executive Di- rector of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He continued at the IMF as Special Advisor to the Managing Director from 1979 to 1984. Dr. Amuzegar has been a prolific scholar with numerous publications in both English and Persian. He is the author of numerous books including: The Islamic Republic of Iran: Reflections on an Emerging Economy (2014); Managing Oil Wealth (1999); Iran’s Economy Under the Islamic Republic (1993); The Dynamics of the Iranian Revolution (1991); Comparative Economics (1981); Iran: An Economic Profile (1977), Iran: Economic Development Under Dualistic Conditions (with Ali Fekrat, 1971); and Technical Assistance in Theory and Practice (1966). In addition to works in English, he is the author of numerous stellar articles in Persian. A selection of his Persian articles appears in this issue of Iran Nameh.
