The cur- rent uniform, known as the Naval Combat Dress (NCD), was initially developed in the early 2000s. It is a three-piece uniform made up of a heavyweight jacket with liner, trousers and a lightweight shirt. After almost two decades of use, we are working to see how we can make improvements. A sailor’s uniform is a source of pride. Wearing quality, well-fitting equipment and clothing are a boost to morale and enables RCN success on operations, which is what makes this project so important. The Department of National Defence and the RCN are currently trialling a new two-piece uniform, consisting of a long-sleeved shirt and pants. This new uniform is known as the Naval Enhanced Combat Uniform (NECU) and will replace the current operational dress. The new uniform will provide increased comfort, per- formance, and a better, more stream- lined fit overall, while functioning Royal Canadian Navy sailors dressed in the new Naval Enhanced Combat Uniform. in all operational environments. In Peril on the Sea – Episode Eighteen Chapter 5 CHRONICLE OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY 5 1942 The loss of HMCS Spikenard, February 1942 The year 1942 began badly for the RCN when the corvette Spikenard was torpedoed on 10 February while escorting convoy SC 67. Seaman Wilfred Mills, a crew member, recalled that, When the torpedo exploded it destroyed the stoker’s mess and the wardroom and tore upward through the bridge structure, leaving it in ribbons of steel and setting the well deck on fire. I covered my head with a coat and ran through the flames, sustaining third-degree burns on my hands, only to fall into the hole full of water. From there I climbed to the upper deck over the strips of steel to my abandon ship station, which was the port Carley float. People came up out of the stokehold. I was so stunned I couldn’t get the Carley float free and someone else came and cut it loose. Whether there were other people in the water, I cannot tell you. All was confusion. …… We started out on a port side Carley float from the upper deck, which by this time was level with the water. We caught up with a raft and transferred to it. The convoy steamed on unaware that Spikenard had been hit.1 Mills was one of only eight survivors from Spikenard rescued by the British corvette HMS Gentian after spending eighteen hours in the North Atlantic. “Almost any meal could be an adventure:” Corvette dining Living conditions on corvettes were primitive and in no matter was this more apparent than in arrangements for cooking and eating.

Cities across the cotintry compete for the right to host this prestigious event. The reputation of such an occasion has caused an increase in demand and price for tickets, making attendance nearly impossible for the average fan. As a result, the National Football League has implemented free events for local residents and out-of-town visitors. This, along with broadcasting the game, creates an inclusive environment for all fans, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of professional sports. This paper explores the growth of the Super Bowl from a novelty game to one of the country' s most popular professional sporting events. Acknowledgements First, and foremost, I would like to thank my parents for their unending support. Thank you for allowing me to try new things and learn from my mistakes. Most importantly, thank you for believing that I have the ability to achieve anything I desire. Second, I would like to thank my brother for being an incredible role model.

  • Eagles' Team Travel
PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDE 2019-2020 EDITIOn PHILADELPHIA EAGLES Team History The Eagles have been a Philadelphia institution since their beginning in 1933 when a syndicate headed by the late Bert Bell and Lud Wray purchased the former Frankford Yellowjackets franchise for $2,500. In 1941, a unique swap took place between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh that saw the clubs trade home cities with Alexis Thompson becoming the Eagles owner. In 1943, the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh franchises combined for one season due to the manpower shortage created by World War II. The team was called both Phil-Pitt and the Steagles. Greasy Neale of the Eagles and Walt Kiesling of the Steelers were co-coaches and the team finished 5-4-1. Counting the 1943 season, Neale coached the Eagles for 10 seasons and he led them to their first significant successes in the NFL. Paced by such future Pro Football Hall of Fame members as running back Steve Van Buren, center-linebacker Alex Wojciechowicz, end Pete Pihos and beginning in 1949, center-linebacker Chuck Bednarik, the Eagles dominated the league for six seasons. They finished second in the NFL Eastern division in 1944, 1945 and 1946, won the division title in 1947 and then scored successive shutout victories in the 1948 and 1949 championship games. A rash of injuries ended Philadelphia’s era of domination and, by 1958, the Eagles had fallen to last place in their division. That year, however, saw the start of a rebuilding program by a new coach, Buck Shaw, and the addition of quarterback Norm Van Brocklin in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams.
