KENNEL NAMES 32 KENNEL CLUB SGM REPORT 33 Is your dog a star? FEES 36 The Kennel Club is calling for dog lovers who are competing at Crufts in any activity or discipline to help show the world just how great dogs are. Every year, to promote Crufts and the many roles that dogs play in society, the Kennel Club press office looks for inspiring dogs and owners with interesting stories that it can communicate to the media, who are often interested in dog-related stories in the run up to Crufts and during the show itself. To give competitors at Crufts the potential opportunity to tell their dog’s special story to the wider world, the Kennel Club has set up an online form, which can be filled in by visiting www.surveymonkey.com/r/Crufts125years. Examples of stories that might be of interest are: Dogs that have changed their owners’ lives, dogs that have overcome adversity to excel in something, oldest and youngest Crufts competitors, two or more generations of the same family competing at Crufts, a family with a combined 125 years of being involved in dogs (to celebrate 125 years of the show), competitors who found love through their dog The Kennel Club press office will then look for the most suitable stories to promote to various media in the run up to the 125th anniversary show in March. -

Cyngor Cefn Gwlad Cymru Countryside Council for Wales Site of Special Scientific Interest Citation Carmarthenshire Pyllau Machyn
CYNGOR CEFN GWLAD CYMRU COUNTRYSIDE COUNCIL FOR WALES SITE OF SPECIAL SCIENTIFIC INTEREST CITATION CARMARTHENSHIRE PYLLAU MACHYNYS (MACHYNYS PONDS) Date of Notification: 1993 National Grid Reference: SS 512980 O.S. Maps: 1: 50,000 Sheet number: 159 1: 25,000 Sheet number: SS 59 Site Area: 6.4 ha Description: Situated on the glacial "end moraine' which farms the backbone of the Machynys Peninsula on the northern shore of the Burry Inlet, just south of Llanelli, these ponds owe their origin principally to the flooding of clay pits in the catastrophic storm of October 1896. In the intervening period, uncommon plants and invertebrates have colonised the site from nearby freshwater and brackish marshes which were once found around the fringes of the now- reclaimed "Morfa-mawr (or "Great Saltmarsh") that lay alongside the higher ground of the Machynys moraine. These moderately nutrient-rich ponds, and the inter-connecting areas of fen and carr, have developed a distinctive and, for Wales, an uncommon community of invertebrates, which includes a high proportion of species which are regarded as indicators of habitat quality; there are also faunistic elements that are more characteristic of fens and marshes of lowland southern England and which are noticeably rare in Wales. The dragonfly fauna is particularly diverse. Machynys Ponds are additionally noted for their botanical interest. The site comprises one large pond with a group of three smaller pools to the east, linked by fen-carr. The main pond holds various aquatic plants such as spiked water-milfoil Myriophylium spicatum, Canadian waterweed Elodea canadensis and increasing rafts of the yellow-flowered fringed water-lily Nymphoides peltata. -

14 the Welsh Premier League and the 'Significant Risk' to Match
14 The Welsh Premier League and the ‘Significant Risk’ to Match-Manipulation. Is a Specific Offence Required? Matt Hall Introduction The issue of match-fixing is one of the biggest global threats the sports industry faces (Veuthey, 2014; Kihl, Skinner & Engelberg, 2017). The link between match-fixing, and wider criminal networks and corruption is well documented. This has drawn international attention from the likes of Interpol, Europol and the European Union. There exists no uniform definition of match-fixing (Katsarova, 2016). However, the concept of ‘manipulation’ provided by the Australian Sports and Recreation Ministers Council (2011) receives endorsement by the European Parliament (ibid), that being: “Match-fixing involves the manipulation of an outcome or contingency by competitors, teams, sports agents, support staff, referees and officials and venue staff. Such conduct includes: i. the deliberate fixing of the result of a contest, or of an occurrence within the contest; ii. deliberate underperformance; iii. withdrawal (tanking);1 iiii. an official’s deliberate misapplication of the rules of the contest; v. interference with the play or playing surfaces by venue staff; and vi. abuse of insider information to support a bet placed by any of the above or placed by a gambler who has recruited such people to manipulate an outcome or contingency” (p.2). Match-fixing can arise in two forms: betting-related match-fixing with the aim of achieving financial gain; or sports-related match-fixing which is motivated by the desire to qualify for a competition (Katsarova, 2016). This chapter focuses on the former and will use the terms match- fixing and match-manipulation interchangeably throughout.
