Peter Frampton PETER FRAMPTON BIOGRAFIA Em 1976, o inglês Peter Frampton tornou-se a maior sensação do ano, vendendo 13 milhões de cópias de um disco, num ano, um recorde sem precedentes até então. Cantor e guitarrista de incrível talento o seu momento de ápice desapareceu quase tão rápido quanto apareceu. Mesmo assim, é difícil encontrar alguém que não conheça o seu nome. Peter Frampton nasceu em 22 de Abril de 1950 na cidade de Beckenham, em Kent, na Inglaterra. Aos sete anos, ao ouvir um recital de piano pela rádio com os seus pais ele queixou-se de que “algo estava errado com aquele piano.” Os seus pais não compreenderam a sua reclamação até que no final da apresentação, o locutor da estação apresentou um pedido de desculpa, pois, como ele passou a informar, durante a execução, uma folha de partitura caiu e pousou sobre as cordas do piano. A partir daí os seus pais perceberam que seu filho tinha um ouvido especialmente sensível para música. Aos oito anos, Peter ganhou de presente um ukulele, espécie de cavaquinho havaiano e sozinho aprendeu uma série de músicas infantis, todas de três acordes. O seu gosto musical incluía Cliff Richards, cujas músicas fariam parte de seu repertório numa apresentação escolar que também incluiria a sua primeira composição própria, um instrumental. Aos nove anos recebeu o seu primeiro violão, passando a ter aulas de violão clássico, que embora não fosse a música que ele queria tocar, lhe deu a disciplina e moldou a técnica que, mais tarde, Peter iria desenvolver. Paralelamente ao material clássico, Frampton ouvia e executava material de B. B. King e Buddy Holly. Os resultados desta mistura de influências e técnica mostraram-se frutíferas quando, ainda aos dez, Peter foi aceite como guitarrista convidado na obscura banda The Little Ravens, composta por colegas bem mais velhos de sua escola. Quem passou a cantar com ele foi o então desconhecido David Jones, mas tarde rebatizado David Bowie, que admirava o menino que já tocava bem melhor do que o guitarrista fixo da sua outra banda, George & the Dragons. O pai de Peter era professor de Bowie. Aos onze anos Peter formou a sua primeira banda, the Truebeats, compondo então uma serie de instrumentais que formaria o grosso do repertório. Frampton e Bowie tocariam juntos ocasionalmente durante todo o período de liceu, até Bowie sair da escola. Ainda conhecido como Davie Jones, Bowie seguiria a sua carreira entrando e saindo de bandas até que com os King Bee's, assina com a Vocalion Records. Frampton, três anos mais novo e ainda na escola, igualmente teria ainda em 1964, o início da sua carreira profissional. Perto de completar catorze anos, o pequeno fenómeno teve capacidade para ser aceite numa outra banda, The Preachers, que tocava uma mistura de material entre funk, soul, blues e rock ‘n’ roll. Os hits "Paradise Lost" e "I Don't Want Our Loving to Die" garantem mais idolatria teen onde Peter Frampton é declarado "o rosto" (the Face) de 1968. Peter não demora a se cansar da atenção excessiva dos média pela sua boa aparência e pouco reconhecimento quanto ao seu trabalho como músico. Embora ele e o teclista Andy Bown compusessem a maior parte do material da banda, o som dos the Herd tinha que primeiro satisfazer o gosto e aspirações comerciais dos seus empresários, que cada vez mais, obrigam gravações de baladas com arranjos orquestrais. Frampton, insatisfeito, deixa os the Herd no final do ano. No Ano Novo de 1969, Steve Marriot apresenta-se pela última vez com sua banda Small Faces. Marriot, ainda sob contrato com a Immediate Records, lança pela editora o álbum de estreia de sua nova banda, "As Safe As Yesterday Is". Com a Immediate Records indo à falência, seguida de uma mudança de empresário, os Humble Pie assinam com a A&M Records em 1970. Em tournée pelos Estados Unidos, a banda torna-se a primeira a apresentar-se no Shea Stadium desde os Beatles. O seu novo empresário, Dee Anthony, usa como estratégia de marketing, a de colocar a banda em tournée, abrindo shows de diversas bandas, até conseguir um público cativo. É nos Humble Pie que Peter Frampton desenvolve muito do que seria o som e estilo que marcaria sua carreira. Pode-se dizer que no início Peter Frampton era um aprendiz de Steve Marriot, que lhe ensinou muito sobre como se comunicar com o público ao vivo. Mas no que se refere ao repertório, Peter como co-fundador, tinha voz activa em peso de igualdade dentro da unidade. O empresário Anthony passa a aconselhar Marriot a puxar a banda mais para o heavy rock e blues, direcção oposta do repertório mais melódico que Frampton gostava de dar à banda. Com "I Don't Need No Doctor", os Humble Pie conseguem o seu primeiro hit nos Estados Unidos, ganhando maior aceitação no mercado americano. Porém três anos e cinco álbuns depois, Peter tinha sido transformado em apenas o guitarrista, toda a criatividade musical estando efectivamente nas mãos de Mariott. Percebendo que as suas composições melódicas estavam servindo cada vez menos para a banda, Frampton prontamente deixa o grupo. Menos de dois meses depois, sai o lançamento do disco ao vivo "Performance - Rockin' The Filmore", que venderia milhões e transformaria o grupo num mega sucesso. Tarde demais para voltar atras, Peter casa-se com a sua namorada desde os tempos de escola, Mary Loveitt, e muda-se para Nova York, onde trabalha como músico de estúdio para diversos artistas, entre eles George Harrison e Harry Nilsson. O seu contrato com a A&M Records continuava válido e a editora ainda tinha interesse nele, o que facilitou muito o lançamento em 1972 do seu primeiro disco solo "Wind of Change". O disco apresenta uma colecção de rocks e baladas que em reflexão, mostra um artista na procura do seu verdadeiro som. Peter volta às tournées e a viver na estrada, o que efectivamente se torna um peso em seu casamento. A sua banda, baptizada Frampton's Camel, é também o nome do seu segundo disco, lançado em 1973. Peter acabaria por se divorciar e pouco depois passa a testar um novo aparelho, o talk box, que lhe permite fazer a sua guitarra “falar”. Deprimido com a esterilidade da sua carreira a solo, ele acaba com os Frampton's Camel e tira alguns dias de férias indo para as Bahamas, onde compra uma casa. Estando lá, com a sua nova namorada Peggy McCall, num mesmo dia acaba por compor duas canções que iriam mudar por completo a sua carreira. De manhã ele compôs a música para "Show Me The Way" e à tarde, enquanto assistia ao por do sol, compôs a letra e música de "Baby I Love Your Way". Ao voltar das férias grava praticamente sozinho o álbum "Frampton", tocando órgão, baixo, guitarra, piano, teclados, talk box, e vocais. O seu velho parceiro dos the Herd, Andy Bown responsabiliza-se pela maior parte dos teclados e do baixo e John Siomos fica com a bateria e percussões. Frampton também assina a produção do disco. O seu empresário Dee Anthony, percebendo que a falta de hits na sua carreira poderia limitar as possibilidades da editora continuar com o artista, revive a mesma estratégia que executou com os Humble Pie no seu inicio; tournées incansáveis e depois gravar um disco ao vivo. Embora não sendo um hit, o álbum "Frampton" chegaria em 1975 a disco de ouro, muito graças à disposição de Peter de levar o trabalho para uma longa temporada na estrada. Peter Frampton abre shows para todas as bandas possíveis e imagináveis nos Estados Unidos, desde ZZ Top, Black Sabbath, Rod Stewart e J. Giels Band. Em San Francisco resolvem gravar a apresentação que seria realizada em Winterland, famoso reduto roqueiro desde os tempos da psicadélica. Depois de seleccionado e mixado, uma audição para Jerry Moss, dono da editora, foi marcada para que ele possa ouvir e aprovar o material. No final, Moss pediu para ouvir mais e com isso o disco "Frampton Comes Alive" tornou-se um álbum duplo. Ao ser lançado, tornou-se a coqueluche do momento, vendendo a incrível soma de um milhão de cópias na primeira semana. Frampton, que estava ainda a meio de uma tournée passa, da noite para o dia, a ser a atracção principal. O álbum tornou-se o disco mais vendido na historia do rock até então. "Frampton Comes Alive" continua a ser, até ao presente, o disco ao vivo sem material inédito mais vendido na história, com cerca de 13 milhões de cópias vendidas, só nos Estados Unidos.

(Zak 200 I, xvi-xvii) In this "interlude" Jon Covach, Professor of Music at the Eastman School of Music, provides a clear introduction to the basic elements of recorded sound: ambience, which includes reverb and echo; equalization; and stereo placement He also describes a particularly useful means of visualizing and analyzing recordings. The student might begin by becoming sensitive to the three dimensions of height (frequency range), width (stereo placement) and depth (ambience), and from there go on to con­ sider other special effects. One way to analyze the music, then, is to work backward from the final product, to listen carefully and imagine how it was created by the engineer and producer. To illustrate this process, Covach provides analyses .of two songs created by famous producers in different eras: Steely Dan's "Josie" and Phil Spector's "Da Doo Ron Ron:' Records, tapes, and CDs are central to the history of rock music, and since the mid 1990s, digital downloading and file sharing have also become significant factors in how music gets from the artists to listeners. A two-CD package, newly remixed and remastered, Frampton Comes Alive!: 25th Anniversary Special Edition (A&M/UME) features not only the hits “Show Me The Way,” “Do You Feel Like We Do” and “Baby, I Love Your Way” but adds four previously unreleased tracks to the best-selling live album in history. This special issue celebrates one of the most popular albums of the rock era and the era itself for an entire generation. To augment the landmark release, Frampton personally sorted through eight shows originally taped for use in creating the 1976 album, and chose three songs not included largely due to the time constraints of the vinyl format. “Just The Time Of Year,” “Nowhere’s Too Far (For My Baby)” and “White Sugar” come from the same shows used to create the original album. In addition, to close the revamped album, Frampton selected a recording of “Days Dawning” from a live studio performance taped for a radio station promotion during the same time period. Presented in an expansive deluxe digipak, the 25th Anniversary Special Edition sports the original cover and essay by Cameron Crowe, complemented by a booklet with new photos and additional liner notes, including where and when each track was recorded (details left off the original packaging). By 1975, Frampton had already won recognition as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter in the acclaimed British ensemble Humble Pie and as a solo artist on a series of increasingly successful albums.

    The Roots Report: Peter Frampton at Twin River Okee dokee folks … The other night I had a chance to relive a bit of my youth. I saw Peter Frampton in concert for the first time in 35+ years. Back when I was 16 years old, the Peter Frampton concert at the Civic Center was the hottest ticket in town. The show at Twin River seemed to be at capacity, but unlike the teen crowd in the ’70s this gathering was much, much, MUCH older. It was like an episode of “The Twilight Zone.” If I closed my eyes and listened, I was 16 again. But when I opened them I was shocked back to reality when I saw Frampton and the AARP crowd. After being introduced by some guy (unknown to me, anyway) in a top hat and dreadlocks as “Peter F*ckin’ Frampton,” Frampton took the Twin River stage at about 8:10. He came out playing the lead track from his blockbuster ’76 live album Frampton Comes Alive. He was backed by a four-piece band of guitar, bass, keys and drums. Without stopping, the band launched right into the next song, which was a cover of Bowie’s “Rebel, Rebel.” They continued non-stop into “Doobie Wah.” After a change of guitars from a Les Paul to a hollow body electric, Frampton led the band with “Show Me The Way” and stepped to the center microphone where his signature talk-box was waiting to wah.     Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.
