Flood Situation Report Date: 7 August 2018 Developed by: PoorvanchalGraminVikasSansthan (PGVS)

Worsening situation started in 9th districts of eastern due to Flood. Several districts in the eastern region of the state including , Srawasti, , Basti, Siddhartnagar, Barabanki, Lakhimpur, Mahrajganj and Gonda are flooded.

As per newspapers (Dainik Jagarn and Hindustan 7 August 2018) 228 villages of the above-mentioned districts have been hit by the floods of which 83 are totally submerged and the villagers have been shifted to safer places. The district wise impact of the flood: • 24 villages affected (as per DDMA – 6 August 2018) in (28 hamlets in Shivpur blocks, 14 hamlets Mihipurwa, 31 hamlets in Mahsi blocks and reaming hamlets situated in Kaisarganj sub division) • 13 villages affected in • 44 villages affected in Srawasti district (Mostly affected Jamunha block) • 29 villages affected in Barabanki but 20 villages affected of the Singrauli sub division. • 19 village affected in siddharthangar district • 18 villages affected in Lakhimpur district (09 villages in Lakhimpur sub division and 09 villages Dharaura sub division- source of information DDMA Lakhimpur) • 12 villages in • 08 villages in but pressure continued on embankment by Ghaghra River

Flood situation in upstream area, in (Mahakali): Due to effects of this, water in Sharda River and also rain fall in upstream areas and of Mahakali (Sharda) River, water level arisen in Parigaon DHM station, Nepal with nearest warning level is 4.89 on 6 August 2018. Currently the water level of the Mahakali (Sharda) River is 4.65 Miter and trend is steady in Parigaon DHM station, Nepal. Details of the water level from 27 June to till date is given below (Pic 1)

Flood situation in downstream areas of Uttar Pradesh, : As per flood bulletin (6 August 2018) of irrigation department, the Sharda River is flowing 1.150 Miter above danger level (153.620 Miter) in Paliyakala, Lakhimpur and currently trend of this river is rising. It’s flowing below danger level 0.650 Miter (135.490 Miter) in Shardanagar. More than 2 lakh Ques. water discharged in last 4 days from Shara Barrage.

Visit of UP flood control minister Swati Singh, along with Lakhimpur BJP legislator Yogesh Verma, rushed to flood and erosion-hit Reharia Kalan village of Nakha block here on Friday. Reharia Kalan village is located between Sharda and Chauka rivers. As both rivers are in spate, routes leading to this village are waterlogged and the village is marooned. The minister interacted with the villagers to know their problems and inspected the residential areas on the verge of erosion. She called executive engineer (flood division) BK Singh and instructed him to carry out anti-flood and erosion work from Saturday.

Flood situation in upstream area, Nepal in Karnali (Ghaghra River): From 1 August to 07 August, 2018, water level of Karnali River is rising due to 346.4 MM rain fall in upstream areas in Rajapur area and also

Chisapnai in last three days.

Now the current water level in Chisapani gauge station is 7.66 Miter and its steady and steady now. The given below details (picture 2):

Flood situation in downstream areas of Uttar Pradesh, India: As per flood bulletin (6 August 2018) of irrigation department,

• Ghaghra River is flowing 0.210 Meter across danger level (136.780 Miter) and trend is rising in Elgin Bridge. • Ghaghra River is flowing 0.120 Meter across danger level (92.730 Miter) and trend is Steady in • Ghaghra River is flowing 0.050 Meter across danger level (64.060 Miter) and trend is Steady in Turtipar

Role of Administration:

• ADM Bahraich Mr. Suresh Verma has distributed tarpaulin sheets to flood affected areas and conducted yesterday meeting for planning of worst condition with line department and NGOs • Mahrajganj district Magistrate also conducted yesterday meeting for planning of worst condition with line department • Flood control Minister visited in Lakhimpur kheri

Role of PGVS and Indo Nepal Flood Early Warning Network:

• Coordination with district, sub division, Gram Panchayat and villages level officers and PRI members along with our village task force members. • Collection of village wise flood impact information and sharing with relevant person as per Trans border early warning communication channel • The Task force members disseminated 3 level alert message in the villages of the Bahraich district which are located nearby Suryu river and 2 alert warning disseminated in rest vulnerable villages • PGVS team communicated the situation with district authority and others various stakeholders.
