President Bartlet travels to Rosalind, Virginia, to speak at the Newseum and give a live town hall meeting. But as they’re exiting, S#&* goes down and shots ring out. JOSH: Well done HRISHI: Before we even get into the episode though, Josh, I want to ask you about the title. ‘What kind of day has it been’ is a very Sorkin title, it’s been the finale for lots of things that he’s done before.

From: Reviews and Criticism of Vietnam War Theatrical and Television Dramas (http://www.lasalle.edu/library/vietnam/FilmIndex/home.htm) compiled by John K. McAskill, La Salle University ([email protected]) N2825 NATIONAL LAMPOON’S ANIMAL HOUSE (USA, 1978) (Other titles: American college; Animal house) Credits: director, John Landis ; writers, Harold Ramis, Douglas Kenney, Chris Miller. Cast: John Belushi, Tim Matheson, John Vernon, Thomas Hulce. Summary: Comedy film set at a 1960s Middle Western college. The members of Delta Tau Chi fraternity offend the straight-arrow and up-tight people on campus in a film which irreverently mocks college traditions. One of the villains is an ROTC cadet who, it is noted at the end of the film, was later shot by his own men in Vietnam. Ansen, David. “Movies: Gross out” Newsweek 92 (Aug 7, 1978), p. 85. The West Wing Weekly 7.20: “The Last Hurrah” Guests: Mary-Louise Parker and Teri Polo [Intro Music] JOSH: You’re listening to The West Wing Weekly. I’m Joshua Malina. HRISHI: And I’m Hrishikesh Hirway. And today we’re talking about season 7, episode 20, “The Last Hurrah.” JOSH: This episode was written by Lawrence O’Donnell, it was directed by Tim Matheson, and it first aired on April 30th, 2006. Am I wrong or this is our, at least in terms of recording this way, our penultimate hurrah? HRISHI: We have three more episodes, but yes, in terms of the way that we normally do things, second to last. JOSH: Right, this is it! The house to house, Hrishi to Josh recording, we’ve got this and one more. HRISHI: Yeah we have reached the half-way mark [laughs] This is the half… [laughs] JOSH: Wow, it went quickly, I can’t believe it, yeah very good point. HRISHI: Here’s a synopsis. After the election, the lives of the Santos family and Senator Vinick are in stark contrast as the Santoses gear up for life in the White House and Senator Vinick winds down his own political life. Or at least that’s what everyone expects him to do. But he has other plans for himself, and it turns out he’s not the only one. JOSH: That’s right. I like this episode. It was, I guess it shouldn’t have felt super unexpected to me as I assume I’ve seen it before, but I was surprised how Vinick-centric this episode was.
