This piece focuses on a wild landscape that served as a last refuge for the native people of central Argentina, the Mar Chiquita Lake. This lake, one of the largest and wildest masses of waters in South America, is presently almost inaccessible since, in most areas, the coastal lands belong to private owners. Impaired access added to the prohibition of making bonfires and hunting further removes this landscape from its original inhabitants. Firewood–perhaps one of the few goods that native people can legally profit from–and fire are definitely the symbol of a culture that has not disappeared. These two genders are supposed never to meet, bringing about mixed feelings in the audience who are uncertain about feeling moved as they watch the cute woolen characters or getting sexually aroused as they see them having sex. Ulrika, a blind woman who lives isolated in a cabin in the cold woods of Sweden, suffers from the freezing winter loneliness. One day, Hans, a curt lumberjack, comes across her offering not only his logs to warm up but also his love. A love and sex story unfolds between the blind woman and the lumberjack which is being witnessed by the voyeuristic character Bear Bjorn. Her love fullfilment is overshadowed by Hansʼ betrayal who takes advantage of her condition, stealing her belongings. This scenario pushes Bear Bjorn to act on Ulrikaʼs behalf doing justice to her in his own hands as he gets rid of the lumberjack, eventually wrapping up the love circle.

NEW HAVEN, CONN. TO MY PARENTS Preface The dawn of the twentieth century witnessed the climax of imperialistic competition in Europe among the Great Pow ers. Entrenched in two opposing camps, they glared at each other over mountainous stockpiles of weapons gathered in feverish armament races. In the one camp was situated the Triple Entente, in the other the Triple Alliance of the Central Powers under Germany's leadership. The final and tragic re sult of this rivalry was World War I, during which Germany attempted to realize her imperialistic conception of M itteleuropa with the Berlin-Baghdad-Basra railway project to the Near East. Thus there would have been established a transcontinental highway for German industrial and commercial expansion through the Persian Gull to the Asian market. The security of this highway required that the pressure of Russian imperi alism on the Middle East be eliminated by the fragmentation of the Russian colonial empire into its ethnic components. Germany· planned the formation of a belt of buffer states ( asso ciated with the Central Powers and Turkey) from Finland, Beloruthenia ( Belorussia), Lithuania, Poland to Ukraine, the Caucasus, and even to Turkestan. The outbreak and nature of the Russian Revolution in 1917 offered an opportunity for Imperial Germany to realize this plan.

As titles go, Kingston Story is merely a case of key track graduating to title track because this slow-rolling and electro-flavored album qualifies as Vybz Kartel's least "Jamaican" release to date, including his collaboration with Major Lazer. Recorded with Mixpak Records owner and tasty house music producer Dre Skull, enjoyment of the album relies on adjusting expectations as Skull's beats aren't the usual clever and Kartel's performance is at half-speed, a pace that causes him to crack less jokes and reflect more, even if heavy issues like jail time and arrests are not what Vybz cares to address right here. In fact, "My Crew" is lightweight stuff lyrically, with Vybz toasting champagne and rattling off porno video titles at a Southern, syrup-sipping, hip-hop pace, but it's also a highlight as Skull bangs the timpani and drops quirky bits of Vybz in full ecstasy.

Despite their close economic relationship since 1965, their conflicting historic and political relationships and deep-seated prejudice against each other have continued. The Korean government’s official ban on the direct import of Japanese cultural products existed until 1997, but various kinds of Japanese cultural products, including popular music, found their way into Korea through various legal and illegal routes and influenced contemporary Korean popular culture. Since 1998, under Korea’s Open- Door Policy, legally available Japanese popular cultural products became widely consumed, especially among young Koreans fascinated by Japan’s quintessentially postmodern popular culture, despite lingering resentments towards Japan.

  • LA COSA E ALTRI RACCONTI. Chi Non Conosce Moravia, Pseudo
REALTÀ, MITO E FAVOLA NELLA RECENTE PUBBLICAZIONE DI ALBERTO MORAVIA: LA COSA E ALTRI RACCONTI. Carolina Massi Albanese Universidade Federal do Paraná RIASSUNTO Si analizza l'opera di Alberto Moravia, pubblicata nell'ottobre 1983: La cosa e altri racconti.

Dissertation Presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School of the University of Texas at Austin in Partial Fulfillment for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy The University of Texas at Austin May 2005 To Harold Ashenfelter and Amul Desai Preface A crowded, red double-decker bus pulls into the depot and comes to a rest amidst swirling dust and smoke. Its passengers slowly alight and begin to disperse into the muggy evening air. I step down from the bus and look left and right, trying to get my bearings. This is only my second day in Bombay and my first to venture out of the old city center and into the Northern suburbs. I approach a small circle of bus drivers and ticket takers, all clad in loose-fitting brown shirts and pants. They point me in the direction of my destination, the JVPD grounds, and I join the ranks of people marching west along a dusty, narrowing road. Before long, we are met by a colorful procession of drummers and dancers honoring the goddess Durga through thundering music and vigorous dance. The procession is met with little more than a few indifferent glances by tired workers walking home after a long day and grueling commute.

Dive in, explore, and find a style of music that speaks to you in a way might never have heard otherwise! North America Blues https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-KluFB9A8M The Blues is a genre and form of music that started out in the Deep South of the United States sometime around the 1870s. It was created by African Americans from roots in African musical traditions, African American work songs, and spirituals – an oral tradition that imparted Christian values while also describing the terrible hardships of slavery. Early blues often took the form of a loose story or narrative, usually relating to the discrimination and other hardships African Americans faced. The Blues form, which is now found throughout jazz, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll, is characterized by a call-and-response pattern, the blues scales, and specific song structure – of which, the 12-bar blues has become the most common.
