Netflix Dominates Golden Globe 2021 Nominations in Both TV and Film Netflix Dominates Golden Globe 2021 Nominations in Both TV and Film 02.03.2021 Netflix's bet on offering a huge slate of theatricals and original series from big-name talent paid off at the 78th Annual Golden Globe nominations on Wednesday, with the streaming service snagging 35% of the total mentions with a record-breaking total of 42 across all categories-22 in film and 20 in TV. Netflix's closest competitors-and it wasn't close-were Amazon and Hulu with 10 each. On the film side, Netflix earned nominations for Mank, The Trial of the Chicago 7 and The Prom, while on the series side it earned nods for The Crown, The Queen's Gambit, Ozark, Emily in Paris and Ratched. Three Netflix series will battle it out for the title of best TV drama, with HBO Max's Lovecraft Country and Disney Plus' The Mandalorian joining The Crown, Ozark and Ratched. Last year, HBO's Succession, which did not air in 2020, won this category, and the show's star, Brian Cox, won best actor in a TV drama. Surprising many observers is the lack of nominations for Netflix break-out series Bridgerton, a costume piece of the type that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who votes on the Globes, usually falls hard for. Nominated for best actor in a TV drama this year are Ozark's Jason Bateman, The Crown's Josh O'Connor playing Prince Charles, Better Call Saul's Bob Odenkirk, Hunters' Al Pacino and Perry Mason's Matthew Rhys. On the actress side, nominees are The Crown's Olivia Colman, last year's winner and a double nominee this year with a supporting actress nod for The Father; Crown newcomer Emma Corrin as Princess Diana also picked up a mention. Also nominated are Killing Eve's Jodie Comer, who has won the Emmy for that role; Ozark's Laura Linney and Ratched's Sarah Paulson. Nominees for best TV comedy are HBO Max's The Flight Attendant, starring and executive produced by Kaley Cuoco, who also is nominated best actress in a TV comedy; Netflix's Emily in Paris; Hulu's The Great; Apple TV Plus' Ted Lasso and CBC's Schitt's Creek, which swept the Emmys last fall and also airs on Pop TV and Netflix. Joining Cuoco among the nominated actresses are Schitt's Creek's Catherine O'Hara, Emily in Paris' Lily Collins, The Great's Elle Fanning, and Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist's Jane Levy. O'Hara won the Emmy for her role as the hilariously extravagant Moira Rose on Schitt's Creek. Last year's Golden Globe in this category went to Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge, with Fleabag also named best TV comedy. Nominees for best actor in a TV comedy are Black Monday's Don Cheadle, The Great's Nicholas Hoult, Schitt's Creek's Eugene Levy, Ted Lasso's Jason Sudeikis and Ramy's Ramy Youssef, who won this category in 2020 with Levy winning the Emmy. Limited TV series get increasingly competitive every year and this year is no different. Included this year are Hulu/BBC's Normal People, Netflix's The Queen's Gambit, Amazon/BBC's Small Axe, HBO's The Undoing and Netflix's Unorthodox. The stars of four of those productions are also nominated best actress in a limited series: Normal People's Daisy Edgar-Jones; The Queen's Gambit's Anya Taylor-Joy, who also is nominated on the film side for her starring role in Emma; The Undoing's Nicole Kidman and Unorthodox's Shira Haas. Cate Blanchett also is nominated for FX's Mrs. America, which did not earn a series nomination. The men are much less connected to the best limited-series nominations, with only The Undoing's Hugh Grant earning a nomination. Also nominated are Your Honor's Bryan Cranston, The Comey Rule's Jeff Daniels playing FBI Director Jim Comey, The Good Lord Bird's Ethan Hawke and I Know This Much is True's Mark Ruffalo, in which he played twin brothers. Three of those five nominations are from shows that aired on Showtime: Your Honor, The Comey Rule and The Good Lord Bird, with The Undoing and I Know This Much Is True both airing on HBO. The Golden Globes puts all TV supporting actors and actresses into one category, making both of these fields highly competitive. For the men, the best-supporting actor nominees are Small Axe's John Boyega; The Comey Rule's Brendan Gleeson, playing President Trump; Schitt's Creek's Dan Levy, who also created and executive produced the show; Hollywood's Jim Parsons and The Undoing's Donald Sutherland. Best-supporting actress nominees are The Crown's Gillian Anderson, playing Margaret Thatcher, and Helena Bonham Carter, playing Princess Margaret; Ozark's Julia Garner, Schitt's Creek's Annie Murphy and Ratched's Cynthia Nixon. On the film side, top contenders for motion picture drama include The Father, Mank, Nomadland, Promising Young Woman and The Trial of the Chicago 7. In the musical or comedy film category, contenders are Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Hamilton, Palm Springs, Music and The Prom. The 78th Annual Golden Globes will air Sunday, Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on NBC with Tina Fey hosting from the Rainbow Room in New York and Amy Poehler hosting from the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton, where the show is usually held, in Los Angeles. This is the fourth time Fey and Poehler have hosted, with the last time happening in 2015. For a full list of nominations, go here..

February 26, 2021 Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama are voting to form a union with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). We are the writers of feature films and television series. All of our work is done under union contracts whether it appears on Amazon Prime, a different streaming service, or a television network. Unions protect workers with essential rights and benefits. Most importantly, a union gives employees a seat at the table to negotiate fair pay, scheduling and more workplace policies. Deadline Amazon accepts unions for entertainment workers, and we believe warehouse workers deserve the same respect in the workplace. We strongly urge all Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer to VOTE UNION YES.
