RED HOT CHILLI PIPERS 09.11.2011 Stuttgart-Wangen Longhorn/LKA

Interview

1. Your name refers to the famous American Rock band . Do they know about you and what do they think about your music?

Yes, our name is a play on words of the American band Red Hot Chili Peppers. They were interviewed on BBC TV and were asked about us and they replied they knew of us and liked what we were doing!

2. How did you get the idea naming your band like that?

The name came about after Stuart was tidying his apartment and his girlfriend at the time put his CDs in genre order...when he looked later on he noticed a Chili Peppers CD in amongst all the bagpipe CDs and when he asked her why....she responded...."Oh! I thought it said Red Hot Chilli Pipers!!! " and the band was then born!!

3. Where do you get your inspiration for your music?

We get our inspiration from many sources....Our bagpiping is inspired by legendary piper Gordon Duncan and Fred Morrison. Martyn Bennett and Moving Hearts were also big influences..

4. What feelings you like to arouse in your fans?

We want our fans to experience many different emotions through the concert but ultimately we want them to have fun and be entertained!

5. How important is the visual side and appearance in the music business nowadays?

Image is very important in the music business and also in life now!! People are always judging other people by photos and videos.... The band has a very distinct image of modern Scottish!

6. Your repertoire is enhanced with some cover versions of successful songs from i.e. , Status Quo, Queen or The Beatles – what is the decisive factor on covering a song?

The song has to work on the limited scale of the and also work as a credible and different version of the original...

7. Outside of it appears that there are just a few people playing bagpipes. Is that true and if it is, so why?

The Scottish bagpipes are becoming incredibly popular around the world now and they are now being played by all sorts of people...not just Scottish people! The biggest developing world for bagpipes is in Germany at the moment and Germany is now starting to produce many good bagpipers!!

8. What is your experience playing in Germany and Switzerland? Do you can think of any German or Swiss way of life you like or dislike?

The band has always enjoyed playing in Germany and Switzerland. The audience reactions are fantastic! The German people respond more to other songs than the American people such as our version of John Farnham‟s ‚You‟re the Voice‟

10. is there any difference in how Scottish and non Scottish listeners react when they hear the unique sound of the pipes and drums?

We have never had a bad reaction in the world wherever we have been...from China to New York and all in between. Including places like and !

11. Is there a special education playing a bagpipe? What does it take to be a good bagpipe player?

To be a good bagpipe player required dedication and practise, like all instruments… but the bagpipes also has a special history that intrigues people..

12. Do you wear your skirts off stage, too? And what do you wear underneath?

Underneath our Kilts is „The Future of Scotland‟ We do sometimes wear kilts off stage too! There is no better feeling than cold air between your legs!!

13. How much Sex, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll is your band?

Haha! We are a family band and a family show for all ages!!...but we are Rock and Roll!!

14. Is the band influential on the young generation of musicians?

We are delighted that we have had an impact on young bagpipgers up and down Scotlands. We have been told by one of the most known bagpipe teachers in Scotland that there are 3 things to help bagpipes: - Amacing grace - Paul McCartney with “Mull of Kintyre” - The Red Hot Chilli Pipers Since the Chillis started to become more prominent there has been an massive uptake on young children learning the bagpipes. We‟re incredible proud of that. If we can help bagpiping in Germany too we would be extremely proud of. www.redhotchillipipers.com
