FC BARCELONA Futbol Club Barcelona also known as FC Barcelona and familiarly as Barça, is a professional football club, based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Founded in 1899 by a group of Swiss, English and Catalan footballers led by Joan Gamper, the club has become a symbol of Catalan culture and Catalanism, hence the motto "Més que un club" (More than a club). It is the world's second-richest football club in terms of revenue, with an annual turnover of €398 million (2011). The unique feature of the club is that unlike many other football clubs, the supporters own and operate Barcelona. Jack Greenwell was the first fulltime club manager from 1917 to 1924 under which club grabbed 6 tournament honors. -
Adidas – Euro 2012 Player Quotes Iker Casillas
adidas – Euro 2012 Player quotes Iker Casillas - Spain Your last game is against Croatia, how do you feel ahead of this game? Our last game in our group is against Croatia and I expect this to be a very good game – it could well decide the group winners. They’ve got good attacking players like Modric and Rakitic and they play a similar style of football to us. I expect it to be very open with lots of chances for both teams and I hope we can come out on top. Who are the teams and players to look out for at Euro 2012? At Euro 2012 I think Germany will be a really strong team, they’ve got a good balanced side and played very well at the World Cup. Holland as well, runners up at the last World Cup, are a really good team. When they beat Brazil in 2010 they took a big step forward. However there are also teams like France, England and Portugal to watch out for. Take us back and tell us how it felt when you won the 2008 Euros and 2010 World Cup? I felt more intense emotions and joy at the 2008 Euros. It was my first major title with the Spanish national team and that’s when I fulfilled my childhood dream. The World Cup is the biggest tournament you can win on the national stage and it’s the dream for anyone who likes football – luckily I managed to make two dreams come true in two years! The two tournaments will always be very closely linked in my mind will always be the most special to me. -
A Lesson in Humility
A Lesson in Humility There was so much to admire in Spain’s journey to the summi of world football during the 2010 World Cup: Vicente Del Bosque’s wise management, Xavi’s brilliant orchestration of the play, Andrés Iniesta’s incisive running with the ball, David Villa’s prowess in front of goal, and the goalkeeping exploits of Iker Casillas. But for those of us who observed the current World and European champions at close quarters, it was not only their football ability that impressed. Their human qualities, in particular the humility displayed by many of the Spanish players, gained them respect beyond their technical achievements. Was this positive behaviour just a lucky coincidence or was it the result of a culture within the Spanish game? It is easy to see that this successful generation of Spanish footballers are modest, unpretentious and happy to promote a “we” mentality. As Xavi stated during the World Cup: “We are a group of very normal, very hard working people who love the game.” The same can be said of their head coach, Vicente Del Bosque, who has won both the UEFA Champions League and the World Cup with his respectful, patient and unassuming style of management. What is not on public display is the process which has nurtured many of these gifted players, young men who have their feet firmly on the ground. As Fernando Hierro, sports director at the Spanish FA (the RFEF), and Ginés Meléndez, RFEF coaching school director, informed the participants at UEFA’s recent national coaches conference in Madrid, the aim in Spain is to educate talented youngsters to play, to compete and to develop a psychological balance. -

A Powerful Midfielder
渠成集 A Powerful Midfi elder 5D Shane Chung Kaka (Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite) is known as the youngest and the most powerful offensive football player in the world. He is now playing for Spanish La Liga Club, Real Madrid and the Brazilian National Team. Kaka’s quick rise to fame also made his name appear on a list of the world’s 100 most infl uential people in Time Magazine. However, Kaka’s success has not been easy. Kaka was born in 1982 in Brazil. He began his football career at the age of eight. At the age of fifteen, he decided to become a football player. Unluckily, at the age of eighteen, he suffered a spine fracture as a result of a swimming pool accident, which made him nearly paralyzed. Fortunately, he recovered quickly and picked up football playing again. Kaka joined AC Milan in 2003. He was voted the best midfielder of the Champions League the next year. Many people said that 2007 was the most successful and signifi cant year in Kaka’s football career so far. He was named the FIFPro World Player of the year. Two years later, Kaka signed for Real Madrid and aimed to continue his career at a higher level. Kaka is now one of the famous young stars in world football. Although Kaka has a handsome face, it has never driven him away from his football career. “I’m glad when people say I’m handsome, but I prefer to be the best in the game.” he says. To me, Kaka is a perfect football player, not because of his attractive face, but because of his humble personality as well as his outstanding performance on the football fi eld. -

SPORTS STRATEGY, 2000-2006 Kimio Kase* Sandalio Gómez** Ignacio Urrutia*** Magdalena Opazo**** Carlos Martí**** Abstract Over the period 2000-2006, Real Madrid Football Club and Barcelona Football Club pursued different strategies and achieved different results. In the latter half of the period (in contrast to the first half), Real Madrid won no trophies but was crowned the richest club in the world1. Meanwhile, after a disconcerting start, Barcelona won a UEFA Champions League and two La Liga titles, though it struggled financially. By analyzing the two clubs’ strategies and their financial and sporting performance over the chosen period we explore the different ways in which sports organizations can succeed, and how their success can be measured. The purpose of this study is to answer the following questions: What strategies did Real Madrid and Barcelona adopt to bring about this reversal of fortunes in a few short years? What variables explain the difference in outcomes? Are there any differences in their business and sports strategies? We use a matrix to analyze and relate the clubs’ financial and business strategy to their sports strategy. -
The Three-Man Midfield
THE THREE-MAN MIDFIELD by BRIAN BARTOLO Dissertation submitted in part fulfilment of the requirements for the UEFA PRO Diploma 2015-2017 in the Malta Football Association Technical Centre Tutor: STEPHEN GRIMA Abstract Brian Bartolo: The Three-Man Midfield The systems and the style of play of different teams have always been of interest to the various supporters, the media, the general public and especially to coaches. In recent years it has become more and more essential that teams analyse each other’s style and system of play in order to be well prepared to play against the next opponents. Most of the teams have, in fact, employed full time match analysts to help them in performing this job as best as they can. The system and style of play are the team’s identity and these are dictated by the players themselves. The midfield players are the core of each team and therefore, most often, the team is build around these players. The aim of this dissertation is to determine how a three man central midfield in a team operates and how the players move individually and as a group in both attack and defence. The reason why a three man central midfield was chosen for this study is because, in recent years, there have been more teams using three central midfield players rather than two. The questions tackled by this dissertation are: ❖ Which are the different formations that use a three man central midfield? ❖ What are the different characteristics of these players and what impact do they have on the team’s style of play? ❖ What is the role of these players in the possession phase, the non-possession phase and the transition phase of the team? ❖ How do the various midfield players move during different situations, different phases and in different areas of the field of play? ii To My Family and Friends and All the Participants and Tutors of the first “UEFA PRO LICENCE COURSE” held in Malta between September 2015 and April 2017 iii Structure of the dissertation Chapter one gives an explanation of the different types of formations used along the years and how they evolved.
