FC Bayern München v SK Rapid Wien PRESS KIT Fußball Arena München, Munich Tuesday, 22 November 2005 - 20:45 CET Group A - Matchday 5 A solitary goal after 60 minutes from José Paolo Guerrero at the Ernst Happel Stadion on Matchday 1 allowed FC Bayern München to beat SK Rapid Wien and get their UEFA Champions League campaign off to a perfect start. The German champions will now look to home advantage in their quest for further points towards qualification for the knockout stages. Meanwhile, their Austrian counterparts Rapid are eliminated from European football this season after four straight defeats. However, they will need no motivation as they are still searching for an elusive first UEFA Champions League victory in their eleventh match in the competition. Previous meeting •Before this season, the clubs had met on one previous occasion in UEFA club competition, in the quarter-finals of the 1966/67 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. Rapid took a 1-0 lead from their home leg thanks to a goal from August Starek, but Bayern fought back at home to level the contest. It was Gerd Müller who finally wrapped up the tie for Bayern with a goal after 106 minutes and his team went on to lift the trophy. •Bayern, whose Matchday 1 meeting with Rapid was their first against Austrian opposition in UEFA competition, have also played two other ties against Austrian clubs. Both were against rapid's city rivals FK Austria Wien in successive seasons in the European Champion Clubs' Cup. In the second round of the 1985/86 event, Bayern won 7-5 on aggregate, and at the same stage the following campaign Bayern won 3-1 on aggregate. Perfect record •Bayern's overall home record against Austrian clubs is three wins in three games with eight goals scored and two conceded. Six defeats for Rapid •Rapid, who lost their unbeaten home record against German clubs in the defeat by Bayern on 14 September, have yet to record a win in Germany. In six previous visits going back 45 years, the Austrian team have lost all six matches, scoring just two while conceding 13 goals. First Rapid defeat •The first loss in Germany was on 23 November 1960, in the first round of the European Cup, when FC Wismut Aue levelled the tie at 3-3 with a 2-0 home win. In the days of replays, Rapid eventually triumphed 1-0 in a decisive match played in Basle.
