Ferrell is Brad Whittaker, a producer at a smooth jazz station, who is patiently trying to establish a relationship with the children from a previous marriage of his wife Sarah (Linda Cardellini). Just as he is starting to gain their trust, their cool motorbike-riding biological father Dusty Mayron (Wahlberg) turns up out of the blue and inveigles his way into the household. At ﬁ rst, Brad tries to become friends with him, but with Dusty seemingly intent on showing him up at every opportunity, it eventually escalates into a crazy war of one-upmanship.
