Sasha Stone Years at Rutabaga: 15

How did you get hooked on paddling: I came from a rowing background. When my days of rowing and coaching were over, I longed for a frontal view of the water. I bought a kayak at Rutabaga then got hired.

Favorite place to paddle: San Blas Islands, Panama and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (see sidebar on on page 38)

Favorite boat & why: Any lightweight boat that goes straight and fast.

Favorite part of Rutabaga: My colleagues, making Canoecopia run smoothly, and of course the awesome gear I get to bring in to the shop.

Sand strategies: Embrace it unless you are running a marathon with sand between your toes.
