And while the drafted rookies enter the NFL from a variety of different backgrounds, one thing they generally all have in common is an outstanding experience playing high school football. A total of 247 high schools contributed to the 253 players selected in the seven rounds of the 2016 NFL Draft on April 28-30, USA Football announced today. Six high schools – GLENVILLE (Ohio), MANSFIELD LEGACY (Texas), OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL (Maryland), SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS (Florida), WALSH JESUIT (Ohio) and WHEATLEY (Texas) – had two players selected in the 2016 NFL Draft. For the 10th time in the past 11 seasons, at least one player who attended high school outside of the United States was selected in the NFL Draft. Two players from Australia were selected: punter LACHLAN EDWARDS (New York Jets, Round 7) from Victoria and defensive tackle ADAM GOTSIS (Denver, Round 2) from Melbourne. The other drafted players to attend high school outside of the United States were wide receiver MORITZ BOEHRINGER (Minnesota, Round 6) from Aalen, Germany and defensive end DAVID ONYEMATA (New Orleans, Round 4) from Lagos, Nigeria. Florida led all states with seven first-round selections in the 2016 NFL Draft. Texas followed with four players selected in Round 1, while Georgia and Ohio each had three first-round selections. Texas (32) had the most drafted players in 2016. Florida, which was second in 2016 with 30 selections, finished first in 2015 with 39 players drafted and was also first in 2014 with 44.
