STALLION ANALYSIS DATE: 9/8/19 (Colonel John - Chocolate Pop, by Cuvee) IRON MAIDENS THOROUGHBREDS [email protected] IRON MAIDENS THOROUGHBREDS Pedigree Consultant SECTION I STALLION AND IMMEDIATE FAMILY http://www.ironmaidensthoroughbreds.com ♦ 1 ♦ [email protected] ♦ 772-475-9798 IRON MAIDENS THOROUGHBREDS Pedigree Consultant AIROFORCE 2019 STALLION MATING ANALYSIS AIROFORCE (Colonel John - Chocolate Pop, by Cuvee) 2013 Gray/Roan 16.2 Hands Record: 12-3-3-0 ($679,130) Section I: STALLION AND IMMEDIATE FAMILY Airoforce is Colonel John’s most accomplished son. He has the long, lean elegance of a classic Thoroughbred, reminiscent of his sire Colonel John and second damsire, Canadian Champion With Approval, yet Airoforce received precocious speed from his damsire Cuvee. Airoforce was victorious at distances ranging between 6 1/2-furlongs and 1 1/16-miles. Although he competed mainly on turf, Airoforce won a key stake over dirt. His immediate pedigree has dirt and turf attributes. A magnificent looking $350,00 OBS April sales purchase campaigned by John Oxley, Airoforce flashed precociousness and speed in his debut, drawing away to win a six-furlong turf sprint by 3 1/4-lengths in a sharp 1:10.34, just a second off the Kentucky Downs track record. Airoforce dominated the Dixiana Bourbon Stakes (G3) by 2 1/2-lengths over a full field of fourteen over the Keeneland turf, including Camelot Kitten, Surgical Strike. Airoforce faced a full field of high-class youngsters as the favorite in the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1). and missed the victory by a neck, after racing in traffic and being distracted in the stretch.

  • Semiotics of Power and Dictatorship in Ngugi Wa Thiong'o's Later Novels
qw Advances in Language and Literary Studies ISSN: 2203-4714 Vol. 7 No. 5; October 2016 Australian International Academic Centre, Australia Flourishing Creativity & Literacy Semiotics of Power and Dictatorship in Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o’s Later Novels Yémalo, C. AMOUSSOU (Corresponding author) Department of English Studies, Faculty of Arts and Humanities (F.L.A.S.H), University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC), Benin E-mail: [email protected] Doi:10.7575/aiac.alls.v.7n.5p.208 Received: 23/06/2016 URL: http://dx.doi.org/10.7575/aiac.alls.v.7n.5p.208 Accepted: 30/08/2016 Abstract This paper explores the different uses of symbols to express power and interpersonal relationship in Ngũgĩ’s bulkiest novel Wizard of the Crow (2006), with a few illustrations from Matigari (1987). It draws on the semiotic approach and identifies about a hundred discourse strings in which signs are used to express tenor between characters. In the main, supernatural, faunal and floral symbols are found to be main vehicles of power, though many other such avenues as ‘vocations’, ‘social and gender-related symbols’ and ‘biblical characterisation and numerology’, etc are unexplored here for space constraints. Before the analysis, it is deemed necessary to overview the theoretical background to the study in which relevant concepts have been clarified. It has been concluded that there is no other work in which power is so much expressed through the explored devices as in Wizard of the Crow. Keywords: tenor, symbol, index, proverb, modality metaphor, modaliser/ weakener, modulator/strengthener 1. Introduction It is a known fact that the Kenyan writer Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o uses animal symbols in character naming in his novels.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2019 STREET BAND UPENDS STACKED COTILLION MATH WIZARD PULLS OFF Street Band (Istan) rallied past four Grade I winners Saturday PA DERBY SHOCKER to reach the highest level herself in Parx’s Cotillion S. while earning an automatic spot in the starting gate for the GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff in the process. Dismissed at 7-1 off a third-place run in the GI Alabama S. Aug. 17, the chestnut dropped back to last early but got her set-up as last year’s champion juvenile filly Jaywalk (Cross Traffic) and MGISW Bellafina (Quality Road) knocked heads through splits of :22 3/5 and :46 1/5. Street Band tugged her way up quickly and willingly to reach contention heading for home, and she was moving into third while very wide as previously unbeaten ‘TDN Rising Star’ Guarana (Ghostzapper) struck the front at the quarter pole. Street Band always looked to have that even- money favorite’s measure, and she pulled away from her at will to run up the score to 2 1/4 lengths. New Jersey-bred Horologist (Gemologist) spiced up the trifecta at 21-1.
