TERNA: € 60 MILLION FOR THE NEW CASSANO-CHIARI POWER LINE

In line with its 2021-2025 Industrial Plan, Terna will invest € 520 million over the next 5 years

Rome, 29 December 2020 – The Italian Ministry of Economic Development has approved the new 380 kV Cassano-Chiari power line between the of Milan, and , with will increase the efficiency and stability of the electricity grid in and all of . The final light for the project follows a positive environmental impact assessment (EIA decree) from the Italian Ministry of the Environment, the “OK” from the Conference and the Memorandum of Understanding with the Lombardy Region. Now, Terna will see to the executive for the project, preparatory activity for opening the construction site, expected in 2022.

The project, in which Terna will invest around € 60 million, includes updating the existing 220 kV power line to 380 kV, around 35 km long, between Cassano d’ ( of Milan) and Chiari (province of Brescia). The project will be carried out at the same time as the Brescia-Bergamo-Milan (BRE-BE-MI) motorway connection and will follow the existing power line for about 60% of it, affecting the municipalities of Cassano d’Adda (Milan), Casirate d’Adda (Bergamo), (Bergamo), (Bergamo), (Bergamo), (Bergamo), (Bergamo), Romano di (Bergamo), (Bergamo), (Bergamo), Calcio (Bergamo), Urago d’Oglio (Brescia), Rudiano (Brescia) and Chiari (Brescia).

Throughout the authorisation process, Terna has pursued a policy of utmost transparency, listening and sharing the project with the local community, from detailed studies with the local administrations involved in the project to ‘Terna Incontra’ open days—opportunities open to citizens organised in the municipalities of Treviglio, Chiari and Casirate d’Adda.

The project falls under the scope or the investments outlined in Terna’s new 2021-2025 Industrial Plan, which includes a commitment of more than € 520 million in Lombardy over the next five years for the development and resilience of the region’s electricity grid. On a national scale, Terna will invest a total of € 8.9 million from 2021-2025.
