PRESS RELEASE CASTING UPDATE FROM SEPTEMBER 2013 The Royal Shakespeare Company’s world premiere production of Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical has captured the imagination of young and old alike and continues to play to packed houses at London’s Cambridge Theatre. Sweeping the board at the 2012 Laurence Olivier Awards, winning a record-breaking seven awards, the Broadway production has taken the US by storm winning four Tony Awards® and a Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theater for each of the four girls sharing the title role. From 3 September 2013, James Clyde will join the adult company in London as Mr Wormwood, Lisa Davina Phillip as Mrs Phelps and Joshua Wyatt as Michael Wormwood. As previously announced, they will join Olivier Award nominated Canadian actor Alex Gaumond in the role of Miss Trunchbull and Kay Murphy as Mrs Wormwood. Mike Denman, Juliet Gough, Antony Lawrence, Katie Lee, Antonio Magro, Gary Murphy, David Rudin, Hollie Taylor and Amy Thornton will join the current adult cast which includes Fabian Aloise, Joseph Davenport, Lara Denning, Hayley Flaherty, Madeleine Harland, Joshua Lay and Tommy Sherlock. Matilda The Musical was commissioned by the RSC and played to sold-out audiences at the RSC’s The Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon for twelve weeks from November 2010 to January 2011. It transferred to London’s West End on Tuesday 25 October 2011. The New York production of Matilda The Musical, produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Dodgers, began previews on 4 March 2013 with opening night on 11 April 2013 at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre. An Actor's Life and Backstage Strife During WWII
Media Release For immediate release June 18, 2021 An actor’s life and backstage strife during WWII INSPIRED by memories of his years working as a dresser for actor-manager Sir Donald Wolfit, Ronald Harwood’s evocative, perceptive and hilarious portrait of backstage life comes to Melville Theatre this July. Directed by Jacob Turner, The Dresser is set in England against the backdrop of World War II as a group of Shakespearean actors tour a seaside town and perform in a shabby provincial theatre. The actor-manager, known as “Sir”, struggles to cast his popular Shakespearean productions while the able-bodied men are away fighting. With his troupe beset with problems, he has become exhausted – and it’s up to his devoted dresser Norman, struggling with his own mortality, and stage manager Madge to hold things together. The Dresser scored playwright Ronald Harwood, also responsible for the screenplays Australia, Being Julia and Quartet, best play nominations at the 1982 Tony and Laurence Olivier Awards. He adapted it into a 1983 film, featuring Albert Finney and Tom Courtenay, and received five Academy Award nominations. Another adaptation, featuring Ian McKellen and Anthony Hopkins, made its debut in 2015. “The Dresser follows a performance and the backstage conversations of Sir, the last of the dying breed of English actor-managers, as he struggles through King Lear with the aid of his dresser,” Jacob said. “The action takes place in the main dressing room, wings, stage and backstage corridors of a provincial English theatre during an air raid. “At its heart, the show is a love letter to theatre and the people who sacrifice so much to make it possible.” Jacob believes The Dresser has a multitude of challenges for it to be successful.

Ich spielte im Norden Italiens in Disko - theken und Thea tern meine Shows. An einem dieser Abende, kurz ehe ich auf die Bühne musste, klopften zwei Briten an meine Gar - dero bentür. Es war Paul mit seinem Assis - tenten. Sie erzählten, dass sie sich vier Stun - den lang durch Wind und Wetter gequält haben, um meine 20-Minuten-Show anzusehen. Paul gestand, dass er ein großer Fan meiner Art zu zaubern war. Was ich damals jedoch noch nicht wissen konnte, ist, dass ich von diesem Abend an mit Paul eine bis heute andauernde Freund - schaft pflegen würde und dass auch ich einer seiner größten Fans werden würde. Manchmal ist das Leben schon komisch. Nach meiner Show diskutierten wir bis in die frühen Morgenstunden über Zauberei, Kunst und Theater. Paul trat während dieser Zeit mit seinem Partner unter dem Namen „The Zodiac Brothers“ auf. Sie zeigten großartige Illusionen Freunde unter sich Jeff McBride (li) u.Paul Kieve und klassische Kabarett-Manipulationen. PAUL lud mich eines Abends ein, die Show in einem jemandem, die auch nach einer langen Zeit der „Männer-Klub“ zu besuchten. Als ich den Ort Unterbrechung genau wieder dort einsetzt, wo aufsuchte, war mir sofort klar, dass es sich um man sie verlassen hat, als wäre es gestern einen sehr exklusiven Strip-Klub handelte und gewesen?
