TO THE PATRON The brief and detailed guides to the Spanish Colonial Research Center, NPS document collection on microfilm follow here below: Length of this guide is 1,135 pages (some original formatting was lost in digitization) BRIEF FINDING GUIDE starts page 9 DETAILED FINDING GUIDE starts page 51 The 14 rolls included here are available for patron use at: The Center for Southwest Research, Univ. Libraries – Anderson Reading Room The title of this collection at CSWR is: Spanish Archives Microfilm Collection of the Spanish Colonial Research Center Call # E18.82 S63 2000 (14 rolls) These guides were provided to the CSWR, UNM by Joseph P. Sánchez, Director SCRC, NPS in April 2000 INTRODUCTION TO COLLECTION Dr. Joseph P. Sánchez, Director TO THE READER The Spanish Colonial Research Center (SCRC) was established by the National Park Service in 1986 as a partnership with the University of New Mexico. The SCRC facilitates the research requirements of Spanish Colonial Heritage Sites of the National Park Service as well as other pertinent local, state, and regional entities. The SCRC also cooperates with research organizations in Spain, Portugal, Mexico and other Latin American countries to further the study of colonial Luso- Hispano history. To that end, the Spanish Colonial Research Center is also the publisher of the Colonial Latin American Historical Review (CLAHR). The SCRC has collected over 85,000 pages of microfilmed colonial documents and over 4,500 maps, architectural plans, and sketches form Spanish and Mexican archives. This invaluable collection provides essential sources of information for those interested in Spanish Colonial history in North America. The SCRC is hopeful that the user of this index and microfilm collection will find them to be significant sources of information for research, interpretation, and cultural resources management. The present Guide is the result of research efforts in Spain and Mexico by the National Park Service's Spanish Colonial Research Center. The Guide is a calendared index for fourteen rolls of microfilm outlined below in the table of contents. The index is organized to identify each document by "Record Number." Two record numbers are indicated: the first identifies the computer inventory number; the second demonstrates the Spanish Colonial Research Center archival and microfilm classification code for particular entries. For example, the original documents are identified by archive and have been assigned a "Record Number" as follows: 1PT44-116.AGI or microfilm roll #1, frames 44-116, Sección Patronato, Archivo General de Indias, Sevilla. The "Publishing Place/Location" indicates that microfilm copies of documents are located in the National Park Services's Spanish Colonial Research Center Collection. All place names or proper names and their variations mentioned in specific documents are listed under "Place Names in Document" and "Names of People in Document," for review by the researcher as well as for retrieval purposes in the computerized component of this index. A list of themes suggested in the documents is included under "Topics and Subtopics in Documents." The calendars and microfilm collections are also keyed to Spanish Colonial Heritage sites in the National Park Service. Present names of the referenced parks are associated with the variant spellings of colonial place names which they represent largely based on the states and other entities in which they are located. NOTE TO PATRON: A calendar for a small portion of the France V. Scholes Collection at the University of New Mexico is also included herein encompassed within the numbers 3578 and 3681. THESE ENTRIES HAVE BEEN REMOVED BECAUSE THE SCHOLES COLLECTION AT CSWR WAS REPROCESSED AND THEY NO LONGER MATCH. NOW SEE CSWR MSS 360 BC SCHOLES COLLECTION (be sure to check the Detailed Finding guide link within the Scholes collection on the RMOA). I wish to acknowledge individuals who have, in the course of fourteen years (1986-2000) assisted me in the preparation of this calendar, some of whom have since earned their doctorates at the University of New Mexico. Among them are: Dr. Jerry Gurulé, Angélica Sánchez-Clark, Dr. Aurora Morcillo, Bruce A. Additionally, Ms. Edwina Abreu and Dr. Gurulé deserve special mention in coordinating the project during my absence while working in the Spanish and Mexican archives. Joseph P. DOCUMENT RESUME ED 103 033 JC 750 175 AUTHOR Esquibel, Antonio . TITLE A Review of Public Tvo-Year Institutions of Higher Education in New Mexico. INSTITUTION New Mexico Univ., Albuquerque. Dept. of Educational Administration. PUB DATE Dec 74 NOTE 75p. IDES PRICE MP-$0.76 HC -53.32 PLUS POSTAGE DESCRIPTORS Colleges; *Educational History; *Educational Legislation; Educational Planning; Enrollment Trends; *Junior Colleges; Literature Reviews; Post Secondary Education; *Public Education; *State of the Art Reviews IDENTIFIERS Branch Campuses; *New Mexico ABSTRACT This study vas conducted to establish *The State of the Art* of public two-year colleges in New Mexico* Previous studies of two-year institutions in New Mexico are reviewed. A historical review of two-year colleges and a legislative history of junior colleges in New Mexico are presented. Althougb Nee Mexico does not have a coordinated state system of junior colleges, enrollment in two-year institutions has increased over 200 percent during the last 10 years. New Mexico now has nine branch community college campuses, which are governed by a parent four-year college, and onlyone junior college, which is,controlled by a junior college board elected by the junior college district's voters. New Mexico also hes one military institute, three technical/vocational institutes, and five private and six public four-year institutions. In general, twoo.year colleges in New Mexico have been relegated to the status of stepchild of other institutions* Because they add prestige to the communities in which they are located, branch colleges give the parent institutions additional political clout in the state legislature; this political reality must be considered in future attempts to establish junior college legislation.
