The National Road Relays hold a very special place in our domestic competition calendar and this weekend we will, once again, see not only fine performances from club athletes nationwide, but witness an event that unites the club community through the passion, spirit and determination of representatives from clubs of varied size, structure, demography and heritage. It is truly a celebration of all that is great about club running. I would like to make a specific thanks to Mike Neighbour and the England Road Running Association as the organising body, and I would also like to thank the countless volunteer officials who will ensure that our club athletes benefit from a high-quality event over this weekend. At England Athletics we actively work to support our member clubs, coaches, officials and competition providers, as these are fundamental in nurturing and sustaining longer term athlete participation and development and it is fantastic to see athletes apply their skills at competitions such as the annual road relays. Many of the current crop of senior international endurance athletes have benefited from competing at this event in previous years, and no doubt there will be many more who we will see on the world stage in the future (and hopefully at the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast in Spring 2018!) who line up for their club with pride at the road relays this weekend. I wish you all the greatest success (and weather!) for this weekend`s event. Chris Jones – CEO England Athletics FOREIGN ATHLETES Senior and Junior age group athletes who are registered with UKA as foreign athletes may represent their First Claim English Club in the ERRA Relays on condition that they can demon- strate bona fide and unbroken residence in the UK and have been registered with UKA by January 1st in the year of competition (2017 this year). No limits are applied to the number of Foreign Athletes in a relay team in the National Relays. The ERRA is committed to the development of English endurance runners and expects Clubs to adopt the above principle when selecting teams but recognises the valuable contribution made to many clubs by those Foreign Athletes who have chosen to live in the UK” Programme typeset by G.J.
