A player under the age of 18 may enter the Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada Qualifying Tournament, provided the player turns 18 on or before the first scheduled round of the final (official money) Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada tournament of the 2020 season. Entry Availability, Deadline & Application Selection The online application process will be available beginning Tuesday, January 14th at 12:00 PM (EST) for all member and non-member applicants. Only online entries will be accepted. Member applicants include 2019 Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada, PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, PGA TOUR Series-China, Korn Ferry Tour Members & 2020 Korn Ferry Tour Members. The entry deadline is Tuesday, January 21st at 12:00 PM (EST) for all past member and non-member applicants. Applications may be submitted for the one-week period as indicated by the entry availability and deadlines noted here. Completed applications will be randomly selected until all tournament sites are filled in accordance with the Field Size & Site Assignment sections below. Any applicant whose applications are not selected pursuant to this process will not be eligible to compete in the 2020 Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada Qualifying Tournament, and their entry fees will be refunded. Note: Late applications, incomplete applications, or those not completed through the online application platform, will not be accepted. The entry fee must be paid in full in order for an application to be complete. Any applicant (member or non-member) missing the entry deadline will not be eligible to compete in the 2020 Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada Qualifying Tournament. Notification of site assignments will be determined no later than Friday, January 24th and be accompanied by additional site-specific information. Format A 72-hole stroke play competition with the low 40 qualifiers and any player tied for 40th place earning eligibility status for the 2020 Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada season. The winner of each site will be exempt for the entire 2020 season and not subject to any reshuffle(s). Finishers 2-14 will be exempt through the reshuffle following the completion of the sixth event in 2020. In the event of a tie for 1st or 14th position, there will be a hole-by-hole playoff immediately following play. Finishers 15-40 and any player tied for 40th place will receive conditional status to the Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada for the 2020 season. See ‘Performance Benefits’ below for additional information on benefits to each membership eligibility status. If, prior to the official practice round and tournament registration date (i.e., the date preceding the first round of official competition), a qualifying competition site has fewer than 120 competitors, the Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada will reduce the number of players earning exempt status as follows: The winner of the site will be exempt for the entire 2020 season and not subject to any reshuffle(s). The next 10% of finishers (rounded up in the case of a non-whole number) will be exempt through the reshuffle following the completion of the sixth event in 2020 and subject to that mid-season reshuffle. The next 20% of finishers and ties (rounded up in the case of a non-whole number) will receive conditional status to the Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada for the 2020 season. Any change to the number of qualifying spots available for players to earn eligibility status will be communicated on or prior to the official practice round and tournament registration date of each site. NOTE: In the event of a tie for the winner or last exempt qualifying position, there will be a hole-by-hole playoff immediately following play. No playoff will be conducted for ties concerning conditional membership. Field Size & Site Assignment Maximum of 132 players per site. All 2019 members of the Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada, PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, PGA TOUR Series- China, Korn Ferry Tour Members and 2020 Korn Ferry Tour Members will receive priority in site assignment but will be drawn on a random basis from within the same pool of member applicants. Member and non-member entries will not be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis and both are subject to the same entry period. The Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada reserves the right to balance the field size at qualifying sites by assigning any applicant, including members of the aforementioned tours whose applications are received prior to the entry deadline, to other sites as deemed necessary. In the event that the number of entries exceeds the number of playing opportunities that can be accommodated by the six (6) scheduled Qualifying Sites, the Overflow tournament site will be used. The minimum number of excess entries required to contest a qualifying tournament at the Overflow site will be 78. The number of applicants advancing from each tournament location will be as outlined above in the ‘Format’ section, which may be calculated on a pro-rata basis (i.e., Sites and fields with fewer than 125 competitors will be adjusted on an equitable basis). Should each of the sites/fields reach the maximum number of players, but fewer than 78 (or more than 132) applicants still exist, these applicants will be assigned as an alternate to their highest-ranked (i.e., first) site preference. Similar to site assignments, alternates will be assigned on a random basis and the Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada reserves the right to balance the field size at qualifying sites by assigning any alternate to another site as deemed necessary, regardless of preference. Notification of site assignments will be determined no later than Friday, January 24th and be accompanied by additional site-specific information. Alternates Each site may, depending on the number of entries received, have its own alternate list. Once a site has exhausted its alternate list, the next highest-assigned alternate at the next qualifying site will be eligible for any available playing opportunity. The ‘next qualifying site’ is deemed to be either the next qualifying site to be played after the one in question, or the first qualifying site in the schedule if no qualifying tournaments have been contested at that time. If and when a spot becomes available at any of the sites, it will be offered to the next alternate, either from that site or the next highest-assigned alternate at the next qualifying site. If an alternate chooses not to accept a spot, he will retain his spot on the alternates list and the next- available alternate will be contacted and so on, until the spot is filled. Any alternate withdrawing from a qualifying competition site alternate list will receive a full refund at the time of their withdrawal or once that qualifying site has been contested. If an alternate is not offered a spot (i.e., due to an insufficient number of withdrawals) they would also receive a full refund. Note: Alternates wishing to wait on-site at qualifying competition location may do so at their discretion. If, beginning during the official practice round/registration date (i.e., the date preceding the first round of official competition) through the last starting time of the first round of the competition, a player withdraws or does not show for his starting time, an on-site alternate will be eligible to compete.

  • TICKET to RIDE: CASEY MARTIN V. PGA TOUR, INC
TICKET TO RIDE: CASEY MARTIN v. PGA TOUR, INC. Daniel Bryant I. Introduction On January 11, 1998, Casey Martin became the first person to win a professional golf event while using a cart1. Martin rode a cart in the Lakeland Classic, the opening event of the Nike Tour season, thanks to a stipulation between Martin and the PGA Tour2. The agreement allowed Martin the use of a cart in the first two events of the Nike Tour season, after which Casey’s fate would be in the hands of a United States District Court3. The stipulation created a media firestorm unlike anything the Nike Tour, which functions as golf’s minor league, had seen before. More than eleven thousand spectators turned out to see Martin’s first round4. As he stepped to the first tee, Martin was keenly aware of the pressure and thought, “don’t shank it. Don’t shoot 90 with all these people watching”5. Martin did not shank his first shot, but instead birdied three of his first four holes, racing to a first round score of 66, only one shot off the lead6. Martin followed up his excellent first round with a second round score of 69 and a third round score of 657. His inspired play continued into the fourth and final round, landing him in a tie for the lead with 3 holes to play. Martin played the final 3 holes in one shot under par, securing a two stroke victory and his place in history8. Although Martin was extremely proud of his victory, he expressed sadness that he was unable to win while walking.

  • 2004 PGA TOUR Media Guide / 1-1 Table of Contents
A Message to the Media n behalf of the players and staff, welcome to the 2004 PGA TOUR season. We appreciate your continued interest in our sport, and we clearly recognize the extent to which our success is tied to the thorough and professional coverage we receive from a Owide variety of global media outlets. As the PGA TOUR begins another great season, we can truly state that the image and competitive spirit of our players has led to the healthiest state in the history of our organization. The Sports Business Journal recently reaffirmed this when it published the “2003 League Report Card,” a survey of corporate sponsors’ opinions of their investment in sports properties. The PGA TOUR ranked first in overall satisfaction among the 16 major sports. This is important as we continue to raise the exposure of our tournaments, provide significant value to our sponsors and showcase the widespread excellence of our athletes. The competition level on the PGA TOUR in 2003 was at an all-time high, with season-ending honors going down to the wire. Tiger Woods recorded a season-high five victories and the lowest stroke average on TOUR and garnered a fifth consecutive Player of the Year honor. Vijay Singh won four times and captured his first money title. Davis Love III won a career-high four times, includ- ing THE PLAYERS Championship, making 2003 the first time in 30 years where three players won four or more times in a season. However, the depth of the TOUR was never more evident. Eleven players age 40 or older combined to capture 15 PGA TOUR titles.
