Whether you’re on a personal mission or are part of a group looking to make a team effort, this exhilarating and tough challenge is a real achievement. You’ll total an ascent of 14,000 feet as you are rewarded with spectacular views from the top of some of Snowdonia National Park's finest mountains including Snowdon, , the Glyders, and all the Carneddau peaks.

ITINERARY WELSH 3000’s / 15 PEAKS ______

DAY 1 Traverse the Carneddau Range (7 peaks) With an early rise you will start the first day of your Welsh 15 Peaks Challege on Foel Fras (942mts) the most northerly of the Welsh 3000ft! Your route then takes you to Garnedd Uchaf (926mts) and (976mts) with stunning views along the coastline. Following a ridge you will then tackle (962mts). Retracing your steps it’s a steady climb to (1064mts). Carnedd Llewelyn is the highest mountain in the Carneddau range. Next up is (1044mts). In the late afternoon during your descent you will finish off the day with (979mts) and a final steep decent to the Ogwen Valley.

DAY 2 Traverse Y Range (5 Peaks) With 7 peaks already in the bag, today sees you cross Y Glyderau, one of the most impressive mountain ranges in Britain. Starting with a scramble up Tyfan (917mts) and the famous Adam & Eve standing stones, before short steep climb onto (994mts) and the Cantilever rock, making your way to (999mts.) As you traverse the Glyderau you will have stunning views over Snowdonia. You then make your way to Y Garn (947mts) crossing the top of Twll Du (Devils Kitchen), following in the footsteps of Charles Darwin. Your final peak of the day is (924mts) before a descent to the .

DAY 3 Snowdon Range (3 Peaks) Your final day of the Welsh 15 Peaks Challenge takes you along possibly one of the most famous ridge walks in the UK, Crib Coch (921mts) where a head for heights is needed. As you reach the summit of Crib Ddysgl (1065mts) the challenge is within your grasp and you head for your final summit, Snowdon (1085mts). From Snowdon summit you will have the choice of completing the Snowdon Horseshoe or returning to Pen y pass on the Pyg track. This is time and weather dependent.

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY HIGH The Welsh 15 Peaks Challenge is graded as a ‘Tough / High’ rating. This is due to there being three consecutive long days of trekking along mountain terrain. There is also Grade One involved with crossing and ascending Tryfan, however there will be options for you to take alternative routes if you wish during these sections.

WEATHER Please be prepared for all kinds of weather conditions from cold wet & windy weather to warm sunshine on your descent. Despite this challenge being held in Summer, the weather is unpredictable in Snowdonia, particularly in the mountains. Please ensure you have the right kit to protect you from sun, heat, wind, cold and rain. Your kit will make your event either a great one or an uncomfortable one.

SAFETY Adventurous Ewe prioritises the safety of all their participants and staff, and as such have developed a thorough safety management system. This encompasses comprehensive risk assessments and procedures together with audits of all aspects of your challenge from vehicles to accommodation to your trekking activities.

You will be accompanied by a qualified Mountain Leader at all times. Our Leaders are local, First Aid trained and have extensive experience in leading the Welsh 3000’s. They will be ultimately responsible for your safety during this challenge. They will be carrying full safety equipment and mountain first aid kits. Your health and safety is our top priority.

ADVENTUROUS EWE CREW All our Adventurous Ewe Guides are certified Mountain Leaders and have been carefully selected to ensure you have the best experience on your trek with a bit of humour thrown in for good measure. All Guides and crew are qualified first aiders as well.

ETHICAL EVENT MANAGEMENT Adventurous Ewe is committed to delivering events in a responsible and ethical manner and with sustainable development at its core. We respect and aim to operate our adventures and events to benefit local community, their economy and the environment.

Some of the ethical event management features embedded in our Welsh 15 Peaks are: • Using local crew who are qualified Guides, support crew, cooks and drivers who are all extremely knowledgeable and experienced • Staying in locally owned accommodation • Home-made lunch packs provided by locally owned business who use local produce where possible. These lunch packs do not contain plastic packaging • Minimising plastic waste and recycling wherever possible • Operating with a ‘leave no trace’ ethos • Support the Snowdonia Society through our Corporate Partnership.

WELSH 15 PEAKS CHALLENGE

KIT LIST Good quality, durable kit could mean the difference between a fantastic event and an uncomfortable one. This is a list of recommended kit to take on your Welsh 15 Peaks Challenge.

Clothing  Base layer – preferably a synthetic wicking layer with a long-sleeved top  Fleece Jacket or Wind-stopper  Trousers - fleece or synthetic / nylon or polyester. Avoid cotton they absorb moisture easily and thereby have a cooling effect. Zip off trousers into shorts are handy for warm weather  Waterproofs - breathable waterproof jacket that has a good hood. Waterproof over-trousers – it is recommended that they have a long/full length zip so you can put them on whilst still wearing boots. Both of these items are essential  Wicking t-shirt x 2-3 for trekking  Headwear - warm woolly hat and cap/sunhat for descent.  Gloves - a pair of warm wind stopper gloves  Buff or bandana – for the cold or sun protection  Casual clothes and sleepwear – for the hostel and travel

Footwear  Hiking boots – well-worn in with ankle support and waterproof for the trek  Socks – merino trekking socks are highly recommended for 3 days of trekking  Casual shoes - for the hostel

Bag  Rucksack – 20 - 25 litre rucksack with a waist strap to carry your waterproofs, water, food, camera, and all personal kit required. A rucksack liner/dry bag is recommended.  Main kit bag – for clothing which can be left in the hostel

Equipment  Water bottle - we suggest a 2-3 litre capacity. Platypus / Camelback system  Head torch & spare batteries  Sunglasses – strong UVA/UVB protection preferable  Trekking pole(s) - optional. Please train with these prior to your trek

Miscellaneous kit  Sunscreen and lip block – SPF40 as a minimum  Camera – enclose in a dry bag  Toiletries – Including biodegradable wet-wipes, toilet roll & nappy sacks (for toilet paper rubbish on the trek)  Towel – for the hostel  Personal First Aid - please bring any personal medication plus paracetamol, brufen, rehydration sachets, antibacterial hand gel and plasters/Compeed blister pads, zinc oxide or Rock tape  Snacks and electrolytes – sufficient quantities for 3 days of trekking

Nice to have  Ear plugs for the hostel  Any favourite food or drinks (snacks, tea, coffee, etc.)  Alarm clock  Flips flops and small bag to carry items to & from the shower facilities in the hostel  Duct tape for emergency repairs – (wrap some around your trekking pole or drink bottle rather than carrying a whole roll)
