The announcement strengthens the cooperative relationship between the five CSA-Sanctioned District Youth Soccer Clubs in Winnipeg and the professional face of soccer in Manitoba. The five District Soccer Clubs, including Bonivital Soccer Club, FC Northwest, St. Charles Soccer Association, Phoenix Soccer Club and the Winnipeg South End United Soccer Club, are working collectively with Valour FC to promote an inclusive and cohesive pathway for youth player development in Manitoba. This beneficial relationship will augment, not compete with, youth soccer programs presently offered by our District Clubs and member Community Centres. Having previously partnered with the District Clubs during “Valour FC Club Nights” in the CPL’s inaugural season, the professional club is now building on its mandate to focus on growth in the grassroots of Manitoba soccer. WSEU strives to promote a greater love for the game of soccer as an important outcome for the youth in our District. The Valour FC Youth Affiliate Club Program is specially designed to support the Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) objectives of Canada Soccer through enhanced opportunities for WSEU youth as they grow and develop within the game. In line with Canada Soccer’s plan to grow the game ahead of the 2026 World Cup, the Youth Affiliate Club Program will offer District Skill Centres, including supplemental training open to all youth ages 8 to 14. Youth players participating in Valour FC’s affiliate grassroots programs will graduate to developmental skill centres where they will be provided with opportunities to enjoy a positive and supportive pathway for continued development. These skill centres will be delivered jointly by Valour FC staff, players, as well as coaches from the Partner Youth Soccer Clubs. WSEU shares the enthusiasm expressed by Valour FC President and CEO, Wade Miller, when he says, “This is an important step for the overall commitment to youth soccer within this Province. We’re excited to work together and not only support these clubs but to help foster a passion for the game among Manitoba youth.” Valour FC Head Coach and General Manager, Rob Gale, builds on this enthusiasm when he says, “We want youngsters to fall in love with soccer and Valour FC from an early age. Aligning our programming with the major and longest-serving providers of youth soccer programs within Winnipeg will ensure consistent year-round programming between our groups across the City and Province in the future.“ Winnipeg South End United Soccer Club Unit 8 - 10 McGillivray Place Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada R3T 1N4 Phone: (204) 452-8020 E-Mail: [email protected] www.wseu.ca WSEU Technical Director, Hadyn Sloane-Seale, speaks for the WSEU Board and staff when he says, “We are very excited to be aligning our resources with the only professional soccer club in the Province (Valour FC). This alliance will provide additional resources and opportunities for the benefit of our premier, developmental and recreational families. We look forward to working with Valour in providing our WSEU family with better soccer opportunities as we move forward with this relationship.” Dale Friesen, WSEU President, highlights on the significance of this occasion by sharing further insight into the District Club’s plans for the future, “This announcement provides a sample of the expanding cooperation between the five District Youth Clubs, who are working collectively to grow the game of soccer and expand cohesive opportunities for our players, coaches and families at all levels to become more engaged and supported on their soccer journey.” Please join us on our journey with Valour FC. • 2019 Canada Soccer Annual Report
A MESSAGE FROM STEVEN REED, PRESIDENT During my tenure as President, I have had the privilege to continue the momentum established this past decade to ensure that the foundation for Canada Soccer Nation would be further strengthened. Although this Annual Report reflects on the year of 2019, it is that solid footing that has guided us through an unprecedented time in not only our sport but our world. When I reflect on what I will remember most fondly about my three years as President of Canada Soccer, it all comes down to one thing: the people. It is the people within the Canadian soccer community who have banded together to ensure that our players, coaches, officials, volunteers, fans and their families are safe and will return to the pitch and the sidelines when they are secure. It’s about the team this organization has assembled over the last 10 years who, collectively, have brought us to where we are today – the proud co-hosts, with Mexico and the United States, of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™. We are a country to which other FIFA nations now see as a leader in the soccer world. It’s about Peter Montopoli, who as General Secretary brought necessary professionalism to the organization that laid the foundation for all the successes that followed. It’s about my predecessor and now Concacaf President, Victor Montagliani, who believed in—and advanced—our dream of hosting a men’s FIFA World Cup™ on Canadian soil for the first time. It’s about John Herdman, who revamped the women’s program, taking our Women’s National Team to back-to-back bronze medals at the Olympic Games and a place among the top countries in the world.
