    The Museum of Modern Art For Immediate Release January 1994 GAUNONT PRESENTS: A CENTURY OF FRENCH CINEMA January 28 - April 14, 1994 A retrospective tracing the history of French cinema through films produced by Gaumont, the world's oldest movie studio, opens at The Museum of Modern Art on January 28, 1994. GAUMONT PRESENTS: A CENTURY OF FRENCH CINEMA, on view through April 14, includes fifty programs of films made from 1900 to the present. All of the films are recently restored, and new 35mm prints were struck especially for the exhibition. Virtually all of the sound films feature new English subtitles as well. A selection of Gaumont newsreels [actualites) accompany the films made prior to 1942. The exhibition opens with the American premiere of Bertrand Blier's Un deux trois soleil (1993), starring Marcello Mastroianni and Anouk Grinberg, on Friday, January 28, at 7:30 p.m. A major discovery of the series is the work of Alice Guy-Blache, the film industry's first woman producer and director. She began making films as early as 1896, and in 1906 experimented with sound, using popular singers of the day. Her film Sur la Barricade (1906), about the Paris Commune, is featured in the series. Other important directors whose works are included in the exhibition are among Gaumont's earliest filmmakers: the pioneer animator and master of trick photography Emile Cohl; the surreal comic director Jean Durand; the inventive Louis Feuillade, who went on to make such classic serials as Les Vampires (1915) and Judex (1917), both of which are shown in their entirety; and Leonce Perret, an outstanding early realistic narrative filmmaker.

    LA BARAK La Barak est un lieu culturel crée en 2019 par la compagnie Obadidon. C’est un lieu ou se rencontrent différents artistes : acteurs, danseurs, chanteurs, plasticiens et élèves de la région. Il était important pour la compagnie de créer un espace pour tous, permettant aux artistes de s’épanouir. Un endroit pour y voir et entendre différents arts. La Barak accueille plusieurs activités telles que des cours de théâtre, des ateliers d’écriture, des expositions, des stages de préparation aux concours d’entrée dans les écoles etc... dirigées par des intervenants riches de leur expérience et de leur passion. L’association Obadidon met à disposition les salles de la Barak à ses adhérents pour qu’ils puissent y créer et répéter leur projets. La Barak souhaite aussi aujourd’hui s’implanter comme lieu de représentation. Dès Septembre 2020, chaque mois auront lieu des pièces de théâtre, des lectures, des soirées cinéma et autres… En pleine expansion, la Barak ne demande qu’à grandir et à accueillir de nouveaux artistes et leur projets. Leur rencontre a donné naissance à une forte amitié et une envie irrépressible de travailler ensemble. Admittedly, I have a rather romantic view of Scottish history. This is because you won’t find a more patriotic Scot than those among the Scottish diaspora. My parents would do anything for Scotland. I mean ANYTHING – apart from go back and live there. (Christ, my dad even has a bagpipe clock!) As a result, I grew up gorging myself on Scottish history as a child. Names of battles and their often bloody aftermath were drummed into me – Culloden, Stirling Bridge, Bannockburn, Killiecrankie – as well as the great figures from Scottish history: the Black Douglas, Montrose, Bonnie Dundee, Robert The Bruce, Bonnie Prince Charlie, Flora MacDonald and, last but not least, William Wallace, Scotland’s national hero. I’m even old enough to remember when Scots Wha Hae (wi’ Wallace bled) was Scotland’s unofficial national anthem. Going to school in England, however, I soon realised that these names and battles meant nothing to my classmates. This is because England’s often fractious and bloody history with its Celtic neighbours was studiously ignored. I learned more at school about crop rotation than I did about England’s past with Scotland, Ireland or Wales.
