    J OHN F . A NDREWS OBE JOHN F. ANDREWS is an editor, educator, and cultural leader with wide experience as a writer, lecturer, consultant, and event producer. From 1974 to 1984 he enjoyed a decade as Director of Academic Programs at the FOLGER SHAKESPEARE LIBRARY. In that capacity he redesigned and augmented the scope and appeal of SHAKESPEARE QUARTERLY, supervised the Library’s book-publishing operation, and orchestrated a period of dynamic growth in the FOLGER INSTITUTE, a center for advanced studies in the Renaissance whose outreach he extended and whose consortium grew under his guidance from five co-sponsoring universities to twenty-two, with Duke, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Penn, Penn State, Princeton, Rutgers, Virginia, and Yale among the additions. During his time at the Folger, Mr. Andrews also raised more than four million dollars in grant funds and helped organize and promote the library’s multifaceted eight- city touring exhibition, SHAKESPEARE: THE GLOBE AND THE WORLD, which opened in San Francisco in October 1979 and proceeded to popular engagements in Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, and Washington. Between 1979 and 1985 Mr. Andrews chaired America’s National Advisory Panel for THE SHAKESPEARE PLAYS, the BBC/TIME-LIFE TELEVISION canon. He then became one of the creative principals for THE SHAKESPEARE HOUR, a fifteen-week, five-play PBS recasting of the original series, with brief documentary segments in each installment to illuminate key themes; these one-hour programs aired in the spring of 1986 with Walter Matthau as host and Morgan Bank and NEH as primary sponsors.

    MAY 2014 WELCOME A few weeks ago, on April 30, 2014, the American the- atre lost a giant, and The Old Globe lost one of its most valued friends. Nicholas Martin’s relationship with this institution began when he acted here in King Lear in 1957, and it continues to this day as we present Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike in a production based on his original Broadway direction. The fifty seven year span of his Globe career saw him act in eighteen additional productions and direct six, most recently his acclaimed 2013 staging of Shaw’s Pygmalion. On the opening night of that production the Globe named him an Associate DOUG GATES Artist, an honor that he was as proud to earn as we were Managing Director Michael G. Murphy and Artistic Director Barry Edelstein. to bestow. Nicky, as he was known, loved San Diego and adored the Globe, but the Globe loved him more. At every level of the institution, from artists to staff to Board, he was cherished. He was an uproari- ously funny man with a room-filling laugh and a bright twinkle in his eye. His wit was scintillat- ing, and although it could be withering, too, it was never, ever mean-spirited. Nicky was a man of the theatre in the deepest sense: every single part of the process of making theatre thrilled him. His manner in rehearsal was always gentle and open-hearted, and he was fiercely devoted to his artistic collaborators and their work. He was a generous mentor of emerging talent and a loyal supporter of longtime colleagues.

(PCGNY Photo) NEW YORK, 24 July 2018 – The first batch of Diskubre Tour delegates wrapped up their immersion trip in the Philippines covering Manila, Baguio, Sagada, Banaue, and Ifugao last 7 to 17 July. The Diskubre Tour was organized by the Philippine Consulate General in New York (PCGNY) in cooperation with the Philippine Department of Tourism New York (PDOTNY) to promote a deeper appreciation of the Filipino heritage to second- generation Filipino-Americans and put them in the forefront of the community by instilling a spirit of giving back to the Philippines and the FIlipinos. The travelers are expected to be champions of Philippine tourism in their own networks. For the pilot tour, PCGNY teamed up with ABS-CBN as the Diskubre media partner, to document and cover the adventure of the young travelers. The trip will be featured in the digital series Discovering Routes Travels with Diskubre, premiering in September. During the 11-day tour, the young travelers went on historical and educational tours, food trips, farming and livelihood immersion, cultural exchanges, and nature excursions. 20-year old Calvin Santiago from New Hampshire recalls, “I really enjoyed exploring the Philippines. Every day we were traveling to a different city and learning about the lives and history of the locals.
