Here lies the beautiful little village of Gudvangen, typical of the settlements where the practice of small scale farming is still very much part of daily life. In this area you can experience fjord farming as it has been for many hundreds of years. The surroundings have changed little over the decades with some of the houses dating back to the early 19th century and still very much used by their inhabitants.

Gudvangen is situated at the innermost part of the Nærøyfjord and is home to the famous Viking Heritage Festival and the Magic Caves, an adventure through the labyrinth of naturally white walls, sometimes covered in running water, that gives wonderful refl ections of colour and shadow shows, with Grieg’s music adding to the atmosphere.

Gudvangen is a great destination for long mountain hikes where you can gaze down at green-blue fjords or watch the hypnotic tumbling of one of many waterfalls in the area. However, if you fancy something a bit more exciting, adventure sports and activities are common place. KAUPANGER EXCEPTIONAL EXPERIENCES A thousand years ago when the fjords where the highway, Kaupanger was an important port for trading and some of the biggest farms on the west coast was located here. Because of this, one of Norway’s most majestic stave churches were built here. In Kaupanger there is a hidden gem called Haukåsen farm; There are some places in the world where you immediately feel that everything is right. FJÆRLAND THE FJORD AND GLACIER VILLAGE The small village is situated along the Sog- nefjord and has the glacier Jostedalsbreen, the largest mainland glacier in Europe, as its’ nearest neighbour.
