World Police & Fire Games Official 2013wpfg.com Registration Book Official Registration Book 3 Welcome to Belfast – Northern Ireland It is my pleasure to welcome you to our capital city Belfast and indeed the whole of “Our Wee Country”, Northern Ireland. We are a small country of 5,345 square miles (13,843 sq km) with a population of just over 1.8 million people. However what we lack in size we more than make up for in pride, passion and friendliness! Over the last decade our society has seen huge changes. This has resulted in a new power sharing government which has created the political stability to enable our country and its citizens to flourish. Massive investment has been made in our visitor attractions, sports facilities and our hospitality sector. In the last year Belfast has hosted the MTV Awards, opened Titanic Belfast, the World’s largest Titanic Visitor Experience which tells the story of the ship which was built in our city, whilst one of our premier golf courses hosted the Irish Open Golf Championships. Our sports facilities have been significantly upgraded for the 2013 WPFG with a new 50m swimming pool to host the Swimming events and the Toughest Competitor Alive (TCA). The Mary Peters Athletic Track has been completely refurbished to a world class standard and will host the track and field events. The world famous Ulster Hall has been refurbished for our boxing competition, whilst Newcastle, Co Down provides a stunning backdrop to a new Mountain Bike Centre. This new investment will add to our existing excellent facilities to give you the athlete the best facilities in which to compete. Here in Belfast we pride ourselves on being a warm and welcoming city. We have a wonderful story to tell, so please come to Belfast next August to compete and celebrate with your colleagues from around the world. I look forward to welcoming you and your families and friends to the “Friendliest Games!” Dame Mary Peters Patron of 2013 World Police and Fire Games 9 November 2012 4 2013 World Police & Fire Games 2013 World Police & Fire Games Board of Directors Chairperson Judith Gillespie, Deputy Chief Constable, Police Service of Northern Ireland Vice Chair Dale Ashford, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service Max Murray, Director of Offender Services, Northern Ireland Prison Service Councillor Pat McCarthy, Belfast City Council Councillor Adam Newton, Belfast City Council Kathryn Thomson, Northern Ireland Tourist Board Cynthia Smith, Department of Culture, Arts & Leisure Danny O’Connor, Sport Northern Ireland Cathy Gallagher, Independent Michael Murray, Independent Dominic Walsh, Independent 2013 World Police & Fire Games Senior Executive Team John Tully, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Alistair McGowan, Director Marketing and Communications Bob McGarry, Director Games Delivery and Policy Peter Loughins, Operations Support Manager Mark Cowden, Director Programme Planning & Delivery Deirdre Heatley, Director Programme Support & Risk Management Seamus Murray, Director Business Services Paula White, Finance Director A special thanks is extended to all staff, sports managers and sports co-ordinaters who have made an invaluable contribution to the delivery of the 2013 World Police & Fire Games. 9 November 2012 Official Registration Book 5 World Police & Fire Games Federation Board of Directors Mike Graham, President Don Pressley Steve Stigall, Vice President Edmund Russell Kathy Hooven, Secretary Jim King Tony Adler, Treasurer Larry “LC” Collins Alan V.
