  • Hit-Recycling: Casting-Shows Un Die Wettbewerbsstrategie "Coverversion"
HIT-RECYCLING: CASTING-SHOWS UND DIE WETTBEWERBSSTRATEGIE »COVERVERSION« Marc Pendzich 1.

  • The Morean Arts Center's 100Th Anniversary
JULY / 2017 ISSUE 45 The Morean Arts Center’s 100th Anniversary he Morean Arts Center, the first arts center south of Atlanta, is turning 100! Drawing inspiration from the past 100 years, the Morean has created and enhanced a variety of offerings to the community in the form of master artist workshops, elevated Tevents, classes in a variety of mediums, hands-on programs and the opening of the new garden space at the Chihuly Collection now located at 720 Central Avenue. The Morean Arts Center’s story started in the early 20th century when a group of local artists in need of a place to work, teach and display their art connected with the Florida Winter Art School. The Art Club of St. Petersburg – the first art gallery south of Atlanta – settled into space provided by the Florida Art School in their building on Beach Drive. As St. Petersburg and surrounding areas grew, so did the Morean Arts Center from its informal beginnings in 1917, to become an integral part of the country’s top arts destinations. After several relocations and name changes, the Morean Arts Center settled at its current location on Central Avenue. Today, the Morean offers programs for all mediums, styles, skill levels and ages housed in four locations in downtown St. Petersburg. The locations include the Morean Arts Center, Chihuly Collection, Morean Glass Studio & Hot Shop and Morean Center for Clay. At the end of a century of steady growth, the Morean Arts Center continues to provide a place for the arts in St. Petersburg. Staff, board members, artists, teachers and volunteers have witnessed the Morean Arts Center grow and become an institution where one can explore creativity and push boundaries.

HILDEGARD OF BINGEN The Book of the Rewards of Life (Liber Vitae Meritorum) translated by Bruce W. Hozeski Oxford University Press New York Oxford CONTENTS Preface vii Acknowledgments ix Introduction xi The First Part: Concerning the Man Looking to the East 1 and to the South The Second Pan: Concerning the Man Looking to the West 67 and to the North The Third Pan: Concerning the Man Looking to the North 119 and to the East The Fourth Pan: Concerning the Man Looking to the South 171 and to the West The Fifth Pan: Concerning the Man Looking over the 215 Whole Earth The Sixth Pan: Concerning the Man Moving Himself 261 with the Four Zones of the Earth PREFACE When I began working on the writings of Hildegard von Bingen in the late 1960's. I was the only one in this country doing so at the time, but I realized very quickly that there were lifetimes of research for hundreds of scholars in this and other English-speaking countries. Since most of her writings are very long and in complex Latin, readily avail able English translations were a necessary first step, although I believed then and still do that scholarly researchers need to work with the origi nal Latin. This volume is the second of my translations of Hildegard's three collections of her mystical visions, Scivias (1986) being the first. Like Scivias, Liber Vitae Meritorum was written in Latin under Hildegard's immediate and direct supervision. My approach has been to lake Hilde gard's original Latin and to render it into a Modem English version that captures as much of Hildegard's style of writing as is possible in our language, so different from hers, and yet to keep it reasonably readable.

  • BUILDING the Florida Suncoast Dome Ith Talk of a New Baseball Stadium, We Thought It Might Wbe a Good Time to Review How Today’S Stadium Was Built
OCTOBER / 2016 ISSUE 51 BUILDING THE FloRIDA SUNCOAST DOME ith talk of a new baseball stadium, we thought it might Wbe a good time to review how today’s stadium was built. The story starts many years before the Devil Rays played their first Major League Baseball game on March 31, 1998. The road to baseball began in 1977, when Corinne Freeman, St. Petersburg’s first and only female mayor, was elected. The economy was stagnant and depressed. Several leaders started a campaign to bring major league baseball to St. Petersburg. Freeman not only jumped on the baseball bandwagon, she led the charge. To help, the Florida legislature created the Pinellas Sports Authority (PSA) and in 1980, funded it with $125,000 to conduct feasibility studies and to start a site selection process. In 1981, the PSA proposed three sites for a stadium: Gandy Boulevard east of 4th Street, the Carillon Parkway Area, and the Sod Farm (an area north of Gandy and west of I-275.) “Freeman knew a project like this was big and would have its distractors,” said David Fischer, Mayor from 1991 to 2001. “But she also knew a project like this had to be built with municipal bonds, and the laws concerning bonds to build stadiums were changing and actually would be coming to an end soon.” In February 1982, the City Council adopted an Intown Redevelopment Plan that established financing for the revitalization of four downtown areas including an area known as The Gas Plant. It was named for two huge cylinders that held the city’s natural gas supply, remnants of the municipally owned gas system built in 1914.
