Funding permitting, an expansion of the network along key trajectories of the southern route is envisaged to increase the coverage of UNODC’s research capacity. All Paris Pact data collection and research related activities are carried out under the oversight of the Research and Trend Analysis Branch, Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA). The close cooperation between Research and Liaison Officers and the Drug Research Section in the Research and Trend Analysis Branch guarantees consistency in the data collection process which ultimately contributes to the UNODC World Drug Report. Paris Pact and AOTP research staff positioning along the major trafficking routes This compilation of country fact sheets consolidates data collected by the Paris Pact Research and Liaison Officers, based in the Islamic Republics of Iran and Pakistan, the Central Asian Republics of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, Serbia and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, with the support of Afghan Opiate Trade Project (AOTP) staff located in Afghanistan and the Ukraine. The preparation of the country fact sheets also benefited from the work and expertise of staff in UNODC Headquarters and the Offices of the West and Central Asia region as well as South Eastern Europe. Furthermore, UNODC is grateful to the national and international institutions, in particular the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre (CARICC) in Almaty, Kazakhstan, that shared their knowledge and data. The ability to draw on their expertise and experience, along with their continued support, has been invaluable for the Paris Pact Initiative. The work of the Research and Liaison Officers has been facilitated by the financial contributions of the donors to UNODC’s Paris Pact programme (GLOY09): Austria, France, India, Norway, the Russian Federation, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The maps featured in the fact sheets were generated on the Drugs Monitoring Platform (DMP – http://drugsmonitoring.unodc-roca.org/), the online tool for collecting, monitoring and mapping drug-related data, initiated jointly by the Paris Pact programme, AOTP and the Regional Office for Central Asia (ROCA), and operated by the Coordination and Analysis Unit in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
