IThe Lighting team competed in their fi rst tournament (the 29th Annual North Andover Columbus Day Tournament) over the long holiday weekend thanks to a great partnership with the N.A. Soccer Association. The Lawrence Lightning played a total of fi ve games spread over the course of three days. This was the fi rst tournament experience for all of the Lawrence players. The Lightning clinched a trip to the playoffs on Monday with victories over North Andover, Wilmington and Swampscott. On Monday morning Lawrence beat Billerica in a very physical game by a score of 1-0. Lawrence then faced Danvers in the championship game at 10:45 a.m. Since it was an unusually warm October weekend, the back to back playoff games presented a big challenge for both teams. The match was extremely close, and both teams had numerous scoring opportunities. The many Lawrence families who came to cheer on the boys were on the edge of their seats the entire game. The game went into overtime, as neither team was able to put the game away in regulation time. wners Leslie & Brandon Filomeno have turned their Odreams in reality this weekend hosting the Grand Opening of New England’s Premier Canine Facility, Canine Funtime. If you’re a dog lover, we think you will be as excited as we are about having New England’s Premier indoor off-leash dog park. Located right off of Route 495 in Ward Hill, Canine Funtime includes 15,000 square feet for your dog to run and play. They offer wide open play parks that are designed for safety by eliminating the danger of escape or exposure to rain, snow and extreme temperatures. One of the benefi ts of the indoor dog park is that when you want to let your dog run off leash at the end of a long day, you can bring him/her to Canine Funtime and let them run around. It’s a great place for both dog and human to socialize and have fun. “It’s a place where everyone can come together without the elements of the weather and have a great time. We have everything under one roof.” Says Brandon Filomeno. “We have plenty of space where we can separate big dogs from little dogs, high energy dogs, from those that just want to hang around, but most of all, we’re a crate free environment, so that dogs feel free to relax as they want.” Daycare dogs are carefully monitored at all times and grouped by size, age, and personality in order to maximize fun and minimize confl ict. Small dogs and puppies have a special Leslie and Brandon area all to themselves.
