HILGER Abstract Since the introduction of molecular analyses in the field of phylogenetic reconstructions, great progress has been achieved in botanical systematics. As a consequence of the recent findings, a number of changes in the circumscription and naming of sev- eral plant families were found to be necessary. This paper provides a brief introduction into the APG system, which became a standard in botany. Zusammenfassung Seit versucht wird, die Stammesgeschichte der Blütenpflanzen anhand molekularer Analysen zu rekonstruieren, hat die bota- nische Systematik erhebliche Fortschritte zu verzeichnen. Als Konsequenz aus den neuen Erkenntnissen ergaben sich Ände- rungen in der Umgrenzung und Benennung von einigen Pflanzenfamilien. Yet, of the eight derived features essentially distinguishing Misopates orontium from its closely related Antirrhinum majus, five differences have phenotypically been clearly diminished or fully overcome by mutant genes, so that Misopates orontium outwardly approaches, meets or even overlaps the features of Antirrhinum majus or vice versa (aspects of the life cycle, leaf form, flower size, flower colour and mode of fertilization). However, to date the morphological key distinguishing feature between the two genera, the strongly elongated sepals in Misopates (itself a feature being at odds with Dollo’s law), could not be reduced to that of the length of Antirrhinum nor could the development of the short Antirrhinum sepals be extended to that of the length of Misopates, in spite of extensive mutagenesis programmes with both species (agreeing with Dollo’s law as to the stasis of this difference). Tunbridge Wells Borough Landscape Character Assessment 104 Character Area 10: Kilndown Wooded Farmland Key Characteristics 1) An intricate topography with a rolling sandstone plateau that forms a series of high ridges which are regularly incised by the thin narrow tributary valleys of the River Teise. The basic underlying geological structure of the Local Character Area is of Tunbridge Wells Sandstone forming high ridges, with Wadhurst Clay and localised thin belts of alluvium deposits in the valleys. A higher proportion of Wadhurst Clay and Ashdown Beds occur to the north and north-east of the area within the network of tributary valleys of the Teise. The three tributaries of the River Teise, the largest of which is the River Bewl, flow in a general south to north direction through the area and have a great influence on its character. -

Coarse fishing close season on English rivers Appendix 1 – Current coarse fish close season arrangements The close season on different waters In England, there is a coarse fish close season on all rivers, some canals and some stillwaters. This has not always been the case. In the 1990s, only around 60% of the canal network had a close season and in some regions, the close season had been dispensed with on all stillwaters. Stillwaters In 1995, following consultation, government confirmed a national byelaw which retained the coarse fish close season on rivers, streams, drains and canals, but dispensed with it on most stillwaters. The rationale was twofold: • Most stillwaters are discrete waterbodies in single ownership. Fishery owners can apply bespoke angling restrictions to protect their stocks, including non-statutory close times. • The close season had been dispensed with on many stillwaters prior to 1995 without apparent detriment to those fisheries. This presented strong evidence in favour of removing it. The close season is retained on some Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads, as a precaution against possible damage to sensitive wildlife - see Appendix 1. This consultation is not seeking views on whether the close season should be retained on these stillwaters While most stillwater fishery managers have not re-imposed their own close season rules, some have, either adopting the same dates as apply to rivers or tailoring them to their waters' specific needs. Canals The Environment Agency commissioned a research project in 1997 to examine the evidence around the close season on canals to identify whether or not angling during the close season was detrimental to canal fisheries. -

THE WALDEN LANDSCAPE IN THE EARLY SEVENTEENTH CENTERS AND ITS ANTECELENTS Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the University of London by John Louis Mnkk Gulley 1960 ABSTRACT This study attempts to describe the historical geography of a confined region, the Weald, before 1650 on the basis of factual research; it is also a methodological experiment, since the results are organised in a consistently retrospective sequence. After defining the region and surveying its regional geography at the beginning of the seventeenth century, the antecedents and origins of various elements in the landscape-woodlands, parks, settlement and field patterns, industry and towns - are sought by retrospective enquiry. At two stages in this sequence the regional geography at a particular period (the early fourteenth century, 1086) is , outlined, so that the interconnections between the different elements in the region should not be forgotten.
