Marty Haugen & David Haas GIA Publications, Inc. music for B R A T E I L N E G C the church YEARS! 2017 COMING FALL 2016… RITUAL SONG Second Edition itual Song—Second Edition capitalizes on the success of the first edition Rwhile taking full advantage of the experience, insight, and new music we have gained since the first edition of RitualSong introduced in 1996. Ritual Song—Second Edition contains: • A balanced mix of musical styles from chant to contemporary and everything in between • Two complete Lectionary psalters are included. The first features a collection of classic refrains by Gelineau, Proulx, Batastini, and others paired with verses set to both the timeless Gelineau tones as well as a number of psalm tones. The second Lectionary psalter features the popular refrains and tones of Michel Guimont • Select pieces from the popular Lyric Psalter along with other lyrical psalm settings • 11 complete mass settings and other service music, including Tony Alonso’s brand new setting, Mass of Christ, Light of the Nations • Orders of service for Taizé Prayer, Stations of the Cross, and other popular forms of prayer and devotions • An expanded repertoire of music for rituals surrounding the RCIA, Initiation, penance, funerals, healing services, and more • A wide selection of world music and music from the Taizé and Iona Communities • A diversity of languages for bilingual or multilingual worship • The best music from every respected publisher serving the Roman Catholic church You’re welcoming us into your worship and we take that very seriously. This exciting new hymnal contains a balanced blend of music that will appeal to communities that embrace a broad range of worship styles. Ritual Song—Second Edition includes music that has withstood the test of time, the best of what has been written over the last 20 years, and the most successful mass settings and service music written since the implementation of the Revised Order of Mass. As with all GIA hymnals, Ritual Song—Second Edition has the best titles by the finest composers from a host of publishers. The repertoire in this hymnal represents the needs of the twenty-first century church. Our committee, comprised of nationally respected pastoral musicians, worked fervently to create a hymnal that honors all that the RitualSong name represents. The breadth of ministry experiences of the committee and the collaborative process has made Ritual Song—Second Edition a hymnal worthy of your worship. What differentiates RITUAL SONG—SECOND EDITION from the other great hymnals published by GIA? Gather—Third Edition favors contemporary, piano based repertoire while Worship—Fourth Edition is weighted in favor of hymnody and organ based selections. Ritual Song—Second Edition is equally balanced between these two styles. The Ritual Song—Second Edition committee members include Tony Alonso, David Anderson, Jennifer Kerr- Budziak, Heather Martin- Cooper, Michael Silhavy, and Tom Stehle. Talented artists representing a vast array of religious groups in America express their religion through popular music styles. Christian Rock, Jewish Reggae and Muslim Hip-Hop are not anomalies; rather they are indicative of a larger subculture of radio-ready religious music. This pop music has a purpose but it is not a singular purpose. This music might enhance the worship experience, provide a wholesome alternative to the unsavory choices provided by secular artists, infiltrate the mainstream culture with a positive message, raise the level of musicianship in the religious subculture or appeal to a religious audience despite origins in the secular world.

First Baptist Church in Needham 858 Great Plain Avenue, Needham MA 02492 www.fbcneedham.org Meditations for Sunday, May 17, 2020 (or whenever you are so led to pause, reflect, and pray) Sixth Sunday of Eastertide Edition 9 Christ is risen—risen, indeed! Alleluia! Lighting the Candle of Life You may wish to light a candle or use the candle photo as a focus. ALL: We light the Candle of Life — a candle that represents community, spirit, and the fullness of all of life — birth and death and all of the transitions in between and beyond. My God, Holy & Uncontainable… The lectionary offers us texts in John and Acts this week asserting both that God is larger than any of our labels, name, imaginings, or traditions and that God’s Spirit indwells in us. As we continue to live through the time of COVID19, we first pause to consider the images and names of God and Christ that are most familiar and comfortable for us alongside ways of knowing and perceiving our Creator that are less familiar or challenge us to let go of our labels and boxes for our God who is, indeed, Uncontainable and for whom no image, pronoun, or name is fully adequate. What are the names, images, and pronouns I find most comfortable for referring to God? To Christ? What names, images, and pronouns for God and Christ do I find are growing edges for me to use? Why do they challenge me? Am I willing to know God and Christ more fully and deeply by broadening how I speak, think, and imagine God and Christ to be? 1 Reflective Song El Shaddai Michael Card and John Thompson drew directly from Hebrew and Christian scripture to write El Shaddai in 1981.

  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

  • Over 100 Opera Makers
#OPERAHARMONY CREATING OPERAS IN ISOLATION 1 3 WELCOME TO #OPERA HARMONY FROM FOUNDER – ELLA MARCHMENT Welcome to #OperaHarmony. #Opera Harmony is a collection of opera makers from across the world who, during this time of crisis, formed an online community to create new operas. I started this initiative when the show that I was rehearsing at Dutch National Opera was cancelled because of the lockdown. Using social media and online platforms I invited colleagues worldwide to join me in the immense technical and logistical challenge of creating new works online. I set the themes of ‘distance’ and ‘community’, organised artist teams, and since March have been overseeing the creation of twenty new operas. All the artists involved in #OperaHarmony are highly skilled professionals who typically apply their talents in creating live theatre performances. Through this project, they have had to adapt to working in a new medium, as well as embracing new technologies and novel ways of creating, producing, and sharing work. #OperaHarmony’s goal was to bring people together in ways that were unimaginable prior to Covid-19. Over 100 artists from all the opera disciplines have collaborated to write, stage, record, and produce the new operas. The pieces encapsulate an incredibly dark period for the arts, and they are a symbol of the unstoppable determination, and community that exists to perform and continue to create operatic works. This has been my saving grace throughout lockdown, and it has given all involved a sense of purpose. When we started building these works we had no idea how they would eventually be realised, and it is with great thanks that we acknowledge the support of Opera Vision in helping to both distribute and disseminate these pieces, and also for establishing a means in which audiences can be invited into the heart of the process too .
