© Family History Society 2013 Framed and glazed illuminated Roll of Honour with handwritten inscription in black, red and gold lettering. At the top of the Roll is a Union flag draped over an open scroll which contains the dedicatory inscription. A crown is placed at the top centre of the scroll and a laurel garland has been drawn around the whole of the scroll.

Aby-Belleau School/ This Roll of honour contains the names of Old Scholars/ who took part in the Great War, and is the/ Gift of the Children attending this School/ in loving and sacred memory of/ those who died for their country/ (Names)/ "The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away. IV.P.3, Belleau St, John and Withern Main Road Memorial Lance.-Corpl. W. Brumpton, of the Lincs. Regt., is reported killed. He had been previously reported wounded and missing. John William Lancaster. Private 42458. 9th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Killed in action 8th October 1918, aged 19 years. Son of (the late) J H and Harriet Lancaster of Aby, Lincs. Born Aby and enlisted Lincoln, Lincs. Commemorated Vis-En-Artois Memorial. Panel 4. And Belleau St. John

Charles Stainton. Private 15837. 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 28th May 1918. Son of Mr and Mrs E Stainton of Main Road, Aby, Lincs. Born Hatton, enlisted Lincoln and resident Alford, Lincs. Commemorated Soissons Memorial and Belleau St. John In ever loving memory of Charley, the dearly beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Stainton, of Aby, Alford. Who was killed in action May 28, 1918, aged 31 years. We oftimes sit and think dear one, And ponder how you died, With no one near who loved you, Before you closed your eyes, God knows how much we miss you, He counts the tears we shed: But whispers hush, he only sleeps. Born Aby, enlisted Lincoln and resident Alford, Lincs. Commemorated Thiepval Memorial. Pier and Face 1C, and Belleau St. John In loving memory of Charles William Stainton, the dearly beloved son of Edward and Emma Stainton, pf Any, killed in action in France, May 28, 1918, aged 31 years. Could we have raised his dying head, Or heard his last farewell, The grief would not have been so hard For those who loved well
