OK! NEWS Mandy Moore and Taylor Goldsmith tie the knot ongratulations are in order for Mandy Moore and Taylor Goldsmith, who tied the knot in a boho- Cthemed backyard wedding last week. The 34-year-old actress and her musician husband looked the epitome of happiness in a series of snaps from their low-key day. The bride looked beautiful in a blush pink Rodarte gown featuring layers of tulle and a veil in the same hue. She also carried a bouquet of wild flowers as she exchanged vows in front of around 50 close friends and family at her Los Angeles home. Ahead of the nuptials, Mandy had hinted that her bridal look wouldn’t be traditional, saying: “It’s not going to be the stereotypical white wedding dress, because it just doesn’t feel the most me.” The ceremony took place at sunset and was witnessed by Mandy’s This Is Us co-stars Milo Ventimiglia and Chrissy Metz, as well as actress Minka Kelly and her former flame, That ’70s Show star Wilmer Valderrama. Further images shared by friends and family on social media showed rugs dotted around the altar where they exchanged vows, as well as huge pink floral displays. After Mandy and Taylor said “I do”, they continued the celebrations at The Fig House, a private event space in Los Angeles. For the reception, Mandy changed into a plunging black dress featuring a full skirt. Dawes musician Taylor, 33, proposed to Mandy last year after dating for two years. The couple met via Instagram when Mandy posted a picture of the Dawes’s latest album cover and they started emailing back and forth. “We went on a date and the rest is history. Thanks Instagram, for helping me meet my fiancé!” she said.

OK! News Meghan visits Grenfell

he Duchess of Sussex made a highly emotional surprise visit to a group of women whose strength and courage in the face of tragedy led to her irst humanitarian T project as a royal. Meghan visited the group in the Hubb Community Kitchen at the Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre, which inspired Together: Our Community Cookbook, for which she wrote the foreword. The book aims to raise funds for those afected by the Grenfell Tower ire, which took place in June 2017 and saw the loss of 72 lives. Cradling her baby bump, the duchess was all smiles as she arrived at the kitchen, which is located just around the corner from the Grenfell Memorial Garden in north Kensington, London. At the centre, Meghan donned an apron and helped prepare some of the 250 meals which are distributed to homeless people in the area every day. In a break from protocol, the pregnant duchess also greeted kitchen co-ordinator Zaheera Sufyaan with a big hug, and met Abdurahman Sayed, chief executive of the Al Manaar centre. The Hubb Community Kitchen was set up by women from the local community who were afected by the Grenfell ire. Meghan’s visit was the perfect chance for her to see how funds raised from her cookbook have been making a diference and changing the lives of those who survived the ire. Within hours of going on sale in September, the book took the number one spot on Amazon and, to date, has sold nearly 40,000 copies in the UK, raising £210,000. Thanks to the funds raised by the cookbook, the women are now able to use the kitchen seven days a week. They have also felt empowered to gain qualiications. have done television in the past and am currently working on films, but this doesn’t mean that I’ll never make time for a television series again…

What kind of scripts appeal to you most? FK: I enjoy all kinds of scripts, ranging through a variety of genres. And as an actor, I don’t want to restrict myself to any one category. I feel my body of work has been an attempt at that.

When choosing a project, rate the following according to importance for you – script, director or cast? FK: Generally the same order as stated in your question. However, at times a great cast and director can overpower a seemingly run-of-the- mill concept too.

Describe Fawad Khan as a person and as an actor? How different are the two. FK: Fawad Khan as a person is lazy! And as an actor, I leave the poll up to the audience to find out! [Laughs] But coming back to your question, I feel there are times when a character draws a lot from me as a person. I reflect on actual human traits and situations, and try to play them out in my characters. I feel it helps in bringing out something authentic.

Something about your personality you would want to change, and why? FK: My need to invest too much of myself in projects at times is something I would want to change about myself.

How has fatherhood changed you? FK: I would say the same way it changes everybody! My life these days specifically revolves around my children.

Diabetes, especially Type 1, isn’t the easiest to live with, but for those affected, there seems to be a glimmer of hope for a cure.

When you aren’t working, what are you doing? Hobbies, favourite pastime, etc? FK: I had given up on hobbies for a while but I’ve discovered some new ones lately, and rediscovered old ones. Photography is something I’m taking seriously right now, and I find it to be very therapeutic. I’m also dabbling in music again just to keep myself busy when I’m idle. I’m also prepping for a new film which will hopefully release towards the end of the year.

Words of wisdom or advice someone gave you which has stayed with you? FK: Never say never.

Can you tell us about your personal experience of breast cancer? Elizabeth Hurley: Yes. I sadly lost my grandmother to breast cancer during a time in which women were too afraid to speak openly about it. We didn’t know she had breast cancer until it had progressed. It really saddens me to think of how scared she must have felt, going through this alone and not even telling her family.

What drew you to the campaign with Estée Lauder? EH: Shortly after I lost my grandmother, Evelyn Lauder asked me if I wanted to get involved with the breast cancer campaign. I knew that I could use this opportunity to honour my grandmother, and help bring breast cancer to the forefront as a public health issue. Now, it rightfully commands the attention it deserves.

What does this role mean to you? EH: It has been the most meaningful work of my career. Knowing that we can truly make a diference in the lives of those with breast cancer, and also raise funds to bring us closer to a cure, is something I am so passionate about.

How can people support the campaign? EH: If you share a post on Instagram during October with the hashtags #TimeToEndBreastCancer and #ELCdonates, Estée Lauder Companies will donate money to fund half an hour of breast cancer research.

What are your top tips for self-care? EH: All women need to check their breasts every month and talk to their doctor if they notice any changes. After the age of 40, we should have regular mammograms if we can. A healthy diet and getting plenty of exercise helps too.

Heer was that kind of role; I couldn’t let go of it so easily. tackles workplace harassment, one of the many serious issues we are facing today, and how an average girl has to come through without falling apart. Women usually don’t talk about it so the message I want to give with this drama is to speak up!

Which role has been the hardest for you to act out? SJ: Honestly, there is a misconception that acting is all glamorous and fun, which it really isn’t. It is an exhausting, hardcore 24/7 job that takes a toll on you. As far as a particular character is concerned, I would say any role is difficult. I try to do equally challenging parts that are hard to play because it is a process of slipping into someone else’s shoes. Be it a more serious role in Khaani or an exuberant character like Heer, both equally drain you.

A character in the past you thought you could have done better. SJ: None – I don’t look back. Why should you think of something you can’t change? I tried giving my best at that point in time. I have done everything I could with the characters I have played in the past and that symbolizes an actor’s journey.

Do you ever feel insecure in your profession? SJ: Not at all – I am very content with my work and the variety of roles I get to play onscreen. I think insecurities arise when you don’t have good work, which is not my case. People like my projects, the kind of parts I play and recognize me for the work I do so there is no room for insecurity.

Are you transitioning to more films anytime soon? SJ: I am completely consumed by television and other projects right now. Yes, there are some great offers but it is too soon to talk about them.

Who do you wish to work with in the industry? SJ: I believe that the script is the king of any project. A story excites me more than the cast in a project. I can work with anyone as long as I am content with my role and the story is powerful enough to connect with my fans. I go for a drama that is popular with my fan base.

What is your view on women coming forward, sharing their #MeToo stories? How does the role of false accusations against men contradict the movement? SJ: This is exactly what my new serial is about and what my character has to say. One really needs to call a spade, a spade. While playing this role, I realised how hard it is to stand up for 46 I don’t look back. Why should you think of something you can’t change?

OK! PAKISTAN • 47 48 People like my projects, the kind of parts I play and recognize me for the work I do so there is no room for insecurity. yourself but it is the only way to put an end to it. Naming and shaming is important. I laud the women who are making the movement what it is and trying to create a better working environment for girls. It is worth appreciating. However, false accusations are equally outrageous as they damage one’s integrity. We have to see to it that no one uses the victim card. A false accusation can cause equal distress to a man, as harassment can cause to a woman.

We are literally living our lives on social media. What are the dangers of today’s digital age? SJ: As much as social media has made people aware of their rights, there are some drawbacks to it as well. We have centered our lives so much on pictures, likes and social updates that we have forgotten about reality. It has become a dangerous place, as everything is public knowledge. Take your location and whereabouts as examples. It is honestly very scary! However, we cannot ignore its importance, as social media discovered the #MeToo movement.

Do you think celebrities take their success for granted? SJ: I can’t say anything on behalf of someone else but I can speak for myself. I don’t take success for granted because it is earned through hard work. It does not come easy to anyone. I have devoted so many years to be in the position I am today. More importantly, I don’t let any of it go to my head. I try to maintain a balance and keep myself grounded.

Your favourite film genre? SJ: Thriller, dark dramas or romantic comedies! I am watching Sacred Games on Netflix these days. From an actor’s view, I would like to explore all genres. I don’t want to restrict myself to one thing only. I would like to explore every possibility of my job and exhibit diversity in my career.

A book you read recently that you recommend? SJ: I read the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada titled Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns and I absolutely loved it! I liked its genre, too. I am such a huge fan of the prequel and I recommend every fan of the novel to give it a read.

What is your view on life and death? SJ: It is a reality. God has sent us to be the best version of ourselves and everyone should strive to be that way. One should make most of the opportunities that come along but also try to be as human as possible. To me, that is life. Death is inevitable and it keeps people sane. The world would be a lot more chaotic in the absence of fear and death. One should be grateful to God for every day and try to make the most of it.

OK! PAKISTAN • 49 twinkle khanna I am perfectly happy living inside my head From her debut as a young 21-year-old in Barsaat to a bestselling author with three titles to her name, Twinkle Khanna has certainly come a long way. about a woman inding her place in the world and being comfortable with her choices that may not always conform.

Do you feel each one of your books deines a certain phase in your life? TK: I believe that they deine a certain thought process and what I am assimilating about the world around me and choosing to translate into my writing and not personal phases as such because there hasn’t been enough of a time span between these books for me to make those fundamental transitions.

You began your career as actor and moved to interior design before turning writer – for you, has the transition from a visual medium to the written word, been an easy one? TK: I have always been a reader; books have always been my world, my escape, my solace. I irst started writing when I went to boarding school, I used to write poetry. In my late teens and early twenties, I wrote half a book. Then for twenty years I didn’t write anything – nothing, not even a single diary entry or any notes – but I continued reading incessantly. Even with six years of writing columns and three books, I still look at myself as a reader more than a writer. I know that people believe that careers and even the way the brain works is all set in rigid patterns but I believe that identity, neural networks are pliable and can be rearranged according to aptitude and interests repeatedly. Our life spans are getting longer and longer and one of the skills we will have to develop is the ability to reinvent our own paths repeatedly.

Your writings are known for your wit and humour – as a writer and author how important to you is it to be able to laugh at oneself? TK: I could always laugh at the absurdities that I observed around me. If I’m included in that, then yes, I would laugh at myself too. But often I will start writing and halfway through put it down and begin in another genre, so right now all the balls are in the air an d I am waiting for the right one to smack me on the head.

Would you ever consider going back to acting (film or television)? If so what would be your dream comeback role? TK: No. I am perfectly happy living inside my head.

As an interior designer, what is your favourite style and space? TK: I like clean cut spaces with strong lines and then décor that adds a bit of whimsy to what would otherwise be a neutral, contemporary space.

You are an avid traveller – what is an ideal getaway for you? TK: Beaches or mountains, it doesn’t matter as long as I am far away from a bustling city.

Both as a writer, producer and even as an avid Twitter user, you choose to address the otherwise unsaid/undiscussed – a brave choice in today’s world. How important to you personally is it saying it like it is? Are critique and the online trolls easy to handle? TK: Trouble seems to have become my middle name. My problem is that I always voice my opinions vociferously. Sometimes, I may be right, sometimes wrong. When I feel it’s the latter, I examine the scenario. I always try to find things to learn and hopefully with that process in place, I keep getting better at the things I do.

Author, columnist, film producer, actor and interior designer – in your view, which of your many avatars best defines you and which do you enjoy the most? TK: It would be writing, I find it is a way of drifting within my own mind and I only have to deal with a laptop and at the most an editor, whereas in interiors it is a people-oriented project where rig ht from the client to the carpenter you are trying to get everyone aligned with your vision.

Do you see either of your children taking on a career in any of the fields you have pursued? And if so, what advice would you give them? TK: My children are yet young and we are focusing only on education for now.

What’s next for Twinkle Khanna? TK: A lot of people feel happy when they finish a book, but I get depressed because then I don’t have that much to chew on. So, I’d better start writing another one.
