  • Single Source – the Problem Solver by Geoffrey Smith, Strategic Director-Multi Media Development Roy Morgan Research July 2000
. Roy Morgan Research Roy Morgan Research Pty. Ltd. A.B.N. 91 007 092 944 Quality System Certified to AS/NZS ISO 9001 : 94 Cert. No.6669 Single Source – The Problem Solver By Geoffrey Smith, Strategic Director-Multi Media Development Roy Morgan Research July 2000 Introduction Two recent articles in the American press have highlighted some of the problems that have been dogging advertisers for decades. In both cases, the problem is one of getting value out of research. An Advertising Age article1 states that by matching names in Nielsen’s TV diaries with names of new car buyers the authors discovered that the viewing habits of a number of new- car buying segments differ significantly from average household viewing habits. Deborah Anderson, director of Nielsen’s New Media Services, is attributed with the comments that car marketers are reaching too many non-buyers with their national broadcast TV buys and the auto marketers are basing those TV buys on viewer demographics. The thrust of the article is that if car makers were able to buy TV airtime based on car buying behaviour rather than simple demographics then a different program set would be chosen. The opportunity to save money or increase impact could be as much as 70% compared to a buy based on household viewing. Observation A small proportion of the population buys a new car in any year and there are dozens if not hundreds of make/model options to choose from. Because of this huge diversity of options it should be intuitive that at the model level of buying, chances are that most models are not bought by people that closely resemble the average TV viewer.

  • One of the Boys: the (Gendered) Performance of My Football Career
One of the Boys: The (Gendered) Performance of My Football Career Ms. Kasey Symons PhD Candidate 2019 The Institute for Sustainable Industries and Liveable Cities (ISILC), Victoria University, Australia. Thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Abstract: This PhD via creative work comprises an exegesis (30%) and accompanying novel, Fan Fatale (70%), which seek to contribute a creative and considered representation of some women who are fans of elite male sports, Australian Rules football in particular. Fictional representations of Australian Rules football are rare. At the time of submission of this thesis, only three such works were found that are written by women aimed to an older readership. This project adds to this underrepresented space for women writing on, and contributing their experiences to, the culture of men’s football. The exegesis and novel creatively addresses the research question of how female fans relate to other women in the sports fan space through concepts of gender bias, performance, and social surveillance. Applying the lens of autoethnography as the primary methodology to examine these notions further allows a deeper, reflexive engagement with the research, to explore how damaging these performances can be for the relationships women can have to other women. In producing this exegesis and accompanying novel, this PhD thesis contributes a new and creative way to explore the gendered complications that surround the sports fan space for women. My novel, Fan Fatale, provides a narrative which raises questions about the complicit positions women can sometimes occupy in the name of fandom and conformity to expected gendered norms.

Seven’s coverage launches on Friday Night with an extended match preview starting at the all-new time of 7pm AEDT on 7mate. In Victoria and South Australia the coverage moves to Channel 7 at 7.30pm AEDT. All-time great Wayne Carey features throughout the night as an expert analyst. On Saturdays, comedian Mick Molloy takes a seat on the panel for the Saturday Night Footy pregame show to add a ‘voice from the outer’ with his sharp and irreverent look at the AFL. Swans champion and dual premiership star Jude Bolton also joins the team on Saturday and Sunday afternoons as a field commentator. Throughout the season, Sunday Night Football also comes to primetime on Seven for the first time with two blockbuster matches – the Round 3 clash between Essendon and Carlton, and the Round 15 battle between Carlton and arch enemies Collingwood. There will be more Thursday Night Football in 2014 too, with five matches on Seven, up from three last year. Off the field, Seven’s weekly line-up of AFL programs will also include the return of fan favourites Talking Footy, AFL Game Day and Footy Flashbacks.

Supporters of most clubs would have SAVE THE still some optimism that their sides will at least partake in September action if not play off one that 'one day'. For its part the AFL has been kept busy with the machinations of the MCC, and the bickering between Channels 7 & 9 all the while probably keep-ing one eye fixed on the impending drug tide engulfing Rugby League. SWANS FOOTYZINE #6 WINTER 1998 It seems improbable that Justin Charles is the only drug cheat in the AFL - but I suppose time will tell - but for now The proud Ocean Grove Swans are in desperate need of lssn# 1327 - 7030 pp# 241218/0047 anyway our code looks to be in much better shape than financial assistance.
