Council’s waste team recently gave away 1,000 native plant seedlings and 200 bags of compost in less than an hour, and the next giveaway is in direct response to Singleton’s enthusiasm for green living. Council’s hugely popular compost bins will also be available again for the sale price of $20. Singleton teamed up with Maitland and Cessnock councils and Solo Resource Recovery to introduce the green bin service in March last year. Since then, Singleton has collected 2,400 tonnes of organics waste that otherwise would have gone to landfi ll.
