Table Tennis Strokes: Power, Rhythm and Speed Combinations
Table Tennis strokes: power, rhythm and speed combinations LI Xiaodong STROKE COMBINATION VS STROKE LINK Combination : Stroke combination as I understand it is relation between one ball and the following ball. This relation can between same kind of balls as well as between different kind of balls. The scope of combinations is very big. There are many combinations of rhythm, many combinations of power etc. Combinations can be more or less effective. I can play one ball with lot of power, the ball is coming back very fast, and if I try to play again with lot of power, it wouldn't be reasonable; usually it will not be as successful as for instance playing the next ball with medium power. An example of successful combination can be first powerful loop and then the spin loop with less power. Stroke link : The idea of stroke linking in fact is principally the same as stroke combination, however the idea of combination offers more variations. Linking is, as I understand it, continuous using of two various techniques, so this category is more limited. For example many people talk about linking attack with defence -'first attack, then defence', or 'first defence, then attack'. It is rather complicated. "First attack, then defence' link seems to be more difficult and is bigger challenge. Both links have differences - in attack you merely use your own power, in defence you 'borrow the power' a lot; in attack your centre of gravity is in front, in defence you centre of gravity is behind, in attack your swing is rather large, in defence your swing is short etc. -

ACROSS the NET Melton Table Tennis May 2020 Edition 56
ACROSS THE NET Melton Table Tennis May 2020 Edition 56 NOT MUCH TO SAY, REALLY I spoke to a doctor last night, and she said that she was hopeful of the virus being eradicated very soon. Mind you, she’s a doctor of music, but it was nice to get some good news. In this edition, we look back over 6 years of previous editions and hope that there is a reason to write future editions. COVID-19 UPDATE Well, we are still in the grips of a lockdown. It’s tough on many of us, driving us crazy and leaving us with a feeling of hopelessness. It’s like umpiring a best-of-5 match between two defenders. You know it’s going to end sometime; you just don’t know if you can hang on until then. But hang tough, my friends. We will get through this. As you know, both of our venues are currently closed. We have had no word on when these are likely to re- open, so it’s just a waiting game. When we hear that the restrictions are going to be eased, your committee will need to meet to discuss how and when we can get back to playing. We’ll obviously keep you informed. The best you can do in the meantime is follow the medical advice given, look after each other, and stay safe. Until then, I thought I’d put together some of my favourite articles from the past 6 years of Across The Net, just to give you something to read while you wait for better times ahead. -

Table Tennis Times Report
13/04/2021 Dear Councillors As you know, I had prepared a document for you for consideration at the last meeting on the ITTF/WTT matter. Due to the length of the meeting we did not have an opportunity to discuss it at that time. Since then matters have moved on considerably. Diane Webb asked me to prepare an article for publication in the Table Tennis Times magazine which I have done and this has been published. This article gives you an update on the current position, however, this may move further before our meeting. For me, this is very concerning and I do believe Councillors should be aware of it and the ramifications, not just on sport around the world, but in particular, this country. TABLE TENNIS TIMES MAGAZINE ARTICLE Worrying Times at International Level I have had some concern for some time that the ITTF appear to be taking decisions that are reducing the benefits to most of its affiliated members, the 200 plus national associations, by weakening the structure that enables them to grow and prosper also the direction that the ITTF are taking at the moment, driven by WTT, would only boost a small number of the top associations and the leading 50 world ranked senior players. This concern has been accelerated by the formation of WTT (World Table Tennis) which is hugely controversial. WTT is a company which has acquired the lucrative ITTF marketing rights. Its Chair is Liu Guoliang, who is also President of the Chinese Table Tennis Association. Its Directors include ITTF Chief Executive, Steve Dainton, Marketing Director Matthew Pound and Khalil Al-Mohannadi from Qatar, who is also a member of the ITTF Executive Committee. -
