NEWARK 5 ELMIRA 3 NEWARK, N.Y. – Joe Landi (Rhode Island) connected on a two-RBI single as part of a four-run sixth inning that propelled the Pilots past the Pioneers at Colburn Park. Newark’s four scores in the sixth erased a 1-0 Elmira advantage that was forged in the fourth inning on a Steven Patterson (San Joaquin Delta) solo home run. Austin Logan (UC Davis) tied the game with a sacrifice fly that scored Ben Bostick (St. John Fisher) with the tying run. Tyler McDonald (Millersville) followed with a two-out RBI single and two batters later, Landi capped off the rally with a two-run base hit to right field. Newark’s Phillip Flach (Samford) tossed a three-hitter over seven, struck out seven and yielded one run. Elmira’s Steven Patterson (San Joaquin Delta) belted his second home run of the game, a two-run blast in the eighth, but Newark’s Mark Scott (San Joaquin Delta) forced Elmira to leave the bases loaded in the ninth.
